Guest guest
What is a sol-medrol infusion? Meri > > I got on Xolair in March of 05 while on oral prednisone. For a couple of years it worked fine. I was symptom free and could do everything. Last year, 2008, I began to get worse and ended in ER in July and got sol-medrol infusion. I was well for some months thereafter and again this year starting in June I got worse and now am back on pred. I am on 150 mg Xolair every 4 weeks and my pulmo said that I cannot increase my Xolair dosage because my IGE at the start was only 84 and I weigh 160 lbs. Have any of you succeeded in getting Xolair dosage increased? and on what basis? Thanks. >
Guest guest
I use three vials every two weeks. I weigh a lot more than you and I am developing more issues. I am currently on prednisone because of a sinus and asthma flare up during the 4th of July holiday weekend. My allergies are better. I have been on hydroxyzine for years but now I do not have to take it to be able to wear clothes. I use to itch uncontrollablly but now it has stopped. I think it is the Xolair. Guest guest
Hi Gwendolyn. My daughter is also on the three vials every two weeks. How long did it take for it to work on the itching? My dd is also on the hydroxyzine for the uncontrollable itch. I am so glad it helped you. thanks for any input. jean On Wed, Jul 8, 2009 at 6:39 PM, Gwendolyn Rafter <gwen5052@...>wrote: > > > I use three vials every two weeks. Guest guest
It took a while for the itching to stop. It just stopped recently. I am not sure why it stopped but I am glad it did. The Xoliar will work but it takes time. Guest guest
Hi Meri, The medicine is Solu-Medrol (I've been on it too - not fun) and it's basically an IV form (it also comes in a shot form but infusion means IV) of Prednisone that they put you on in the hospital. Hope this helps! Meagan Who will be Pred free in 5 days! > > > > I got on Xolair in March of 05 while on oral prednisone. For a couple of years it worked fine. Guest guest
It is just an infusion (slow drip into your vein) of cortisone. Medrol is same as prednisone. Guest guest
Someone in the group got an increase. It might have been Ron. Anyway, he was on it every 4 weeks. He didn't see enough improvement, so they added 1 shot at the 2 week mark, or something similar. Ask your pulmo to call the Xolair rep and discuss it and to consult with someone at National Jewish as well. You may have to get some kind of letter from National Jewish or something from your Xolair rep to convince your insurance to pay for an additional dose. FYI - if your specialty pharmacy is Accredo Novafactor, they have RNs who help with insurance authorization. The other specialty pharmacies do as well. I had one help me when there was a goof up the last time I got authorized and I got denied on my renewal. Feel better soon.
