Guest guest
Hi Mickey, I just posted a bit about my Xolair experience. I get 2 shots at one time each month. My total dose is 300mg/month. I was at a point of going to the ER about every 2-4 weeks. I nebulized 3x daily, rescue inhaler, Symibcort, Theophyline and a couple other meds. My IgE tested at 32, barely over the requisite 30. I noticed a change almost immediately and have seen a steady improvement in my breathing over the months. I've used my albueterol 1x per month for the past 2 months, have not used my nebulizer for almost 3 months, and stopped the theophyline, symbicort and other druges. The theophyline was stopped by the doc out of concern it was messing with my heart. I stopped the other meds because I have so many medical bills now that something had to give. The doctor gave me some samples so I am back on most now. I am a part of a Xolair users group, and I hear there that my improvement was somewhat faster than the norm. Quite a few folks go a year or so before there is noticable changes. Should you get approved for the Xolair, you are likely to be called by the manufacturer about grants and other financial aid. USE IT! This stuff is outrageously expensive. For me, the benefit is worth the cost. Feel free to write on or off-line if you'd like more info .. I just joined your group. I had asthma as a child until puberty. In my late 30s, the asthma began slowly to come back. I am now 59 and for asthma medication, I am on singulair, spiriva, advair, albuterol rescue inhaoers and nebulizer treatments as needed. In the last year, the asthma has gotten worse. Last winter I had 4 bouts of bronchitis and asthma. I seem to use the rescue inhaler several times a week. Two weeks ago, the pulmonologist wanted blood tests. He called the other night saying my IgE levels were " massively high " at 1027. Therefore I am a candidate for Xolair. The office is getting pre- approval and then I can start the injections. He also wants me to see an allergist to find out more about my allergens. Any information about Xolair and its side effects would be appreciated. Thank you.
