Guest guest
A topic I can certainly relate to since I started losing my hair pretty early on in my life. I've noticed it increasing lately and had hoped that being 59 most of my hair loss was behind me, but guess not. Being a man in today's world makes it easier for us to come to acceptance with hair loss but must admit that I do suffer from vanity as well. JUst another thing I guess that we all will learn to accept as part of this disease, but one thing I've learned is as long as you maintain a smile and a positive attitude, most people won't even notice. Hang in there all. I'm praying that on this day we all have a painfree day. Last night was my MTX dose so just looking to survive the day and recharge my batteries for the week. Last week was a real bummer. It can only get better. God Bless. Bob > > a, > Thanks for the info on Nioxin. Guest guest
Thanks Shirley - After failing at the attempt to wean back to 15MG and having the Rheumy put me back up to 20MG as for now is at least back under control. This week we find out if my liver and kidneys are cooperating with the MTX and after the 20th, we'll probably be joining the MTX injectable group. Just hope I can get the Pred. down. While it's been a blessing for the pain and stiffness, I don't like what it's doing to the rest of me. God bless. Bob > > > > > > a, > > > Thanks for the info on Nioxin. Guest guest
Hi Bob: I sure hope you are feeling better today. It is so difficult to get through a bad pain week. I believe there are better days ahead for all of us. I have done a lot of thinking regarding my RA., and just deal with one day at a time. That is all I can manage. I too am loosing my already thin, baby fine hair. I wear it extremely short, and get it cut every 4 weeks. I hope I don't go bald. Right now my RA is quiet, and I am pain free. I thank God everyday for that, as my last flare was horrible, and my feet were so swollen and painful, causing me to have that terrible fall. I have read all your posts, and know you had a very bad week last week. I hope that is all behind you now, and that you feel better each day. I too hate the high doses of Pred., but it does work its magic on me. I guess the weight gain is a small price to pay while on Pred. I hate the extra pounds I have put on. Wishing you pain free days. Hugs, Barbara > > A topic I can certainly relate to since I started losing my hair > pretty early on in my life. Guest guest
Xolair and hair loss came up in discussion 2-3 years ago. Both Pat, a Xolair specialty nurse who was participating at that time, and myself posted that there are any number of conditions for which hair loss may be a symptom, the most prevalent of which is a thyroid condition. At least two of our hair loss people had their thyroids checked and found out that they had hypo/hyperthyroidism ( I don't remember which). Not even a third of those posting here have reported hair loss. If you are experiencing hair loss, please notify your prescribing physician and your regular doc, who may want to test your thyroid. Guest guest
Thyroid conditions are not the only thing which causes hair loss. My thyroid has been checked often as I am sure everyone's elses has been too. Something else is going on with me. ________________________________ From: pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> Sent: Wednesday, March 11, 2009 7:35:48 AM Subject: [ ] hair loss Xolair and hair loss came up in discussion 2-3 years ago. Guest guest
I noticed hair loss when I went through menapause - I went to a compounding pharmacy to get bio-identical hormone replacement. They have some treatments for men as well. The cream is used on the arm - no pills - within a month my hair was coming back in - had to let it grow out for a year before I could get it cut again - and joint pain in my knees disappeared. My skin texture improved - just a lot of subtle changes. I have since decided that the over the counter bio-identical creams are just as affective and less expensive - for the ladies just make sure that the label shows the ingredient progesterone USP - Its progesterone that is derived from a mexican wild yam - and its a very low dose. It just balances your own estrogen so that you are not estrogen dominant. Hope this helps someone - its been a miracle drug for me and so easy - and under $15 or less a month. A jar of the cream usually lasts me three months. Guest guest
Deb, It took me a good 1 1/2 years to get my hair back after the gastric bypass. Then I started noticing it falling out after I started doing my Methotrexate by injection because the dr. felt I probably wasn't absorbing it enough through the pill because of my bypass. It worked but my hair loss just started to get worse. HOWEVER, you are probably right -- I really need to get back on my vitamin regimen. After a while though, don't you get tired of taking so many mega vitamins daily. I split them up but they're still hard pills to swallow. It also doesn't help the situation that my job is stressful (project manager for govt.) and I'm attending college part-time and the help my kids need with their school work. I've decided after I take this semesters finals tomorrow (Monday) I'm taking the summer off. I need a rest and need to get myself back in order before taking on more classes in the fall. I'm about 70 some credits into my degreee of 120. It's still going to take me several more years to finish, but I'll get it done and I'll just have to take a break if things get too stressful like they have been lately. I have another questions for you -- Have you had problems with your Vitamin D being low and had to do on prescription doses? I can tell when I'm low because my whole body's bones will ache and I can be fine most of the day but then feel like I'm crashing with a bug and have extreme fatigue. Thanks. Guest guest
Hopefully since you are off arava and mtx your hair will start to come back. I lost a lot of hair on both of those but I am off them now and my hair is coming back in thick but it was about 3 mo. off the arava before it stopped falling out. Arava shot my bp up too. linda From: ldydewinter@... <ldydewinter@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Orencia question Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 8:51 AM I am not taking MTX with the Orencia and wonder if I need to suggest adding it. It worked for me for awhile. I had to stop Arava (which also worked for a couple months) because my BP went very high. I'm taking Suladin as an anti inflammatory twice a day and honestly can't tell it does anything. I'm just frustrated. Part of it could be weather. I do need a paddle because it won't stop raining here in beautiful TN! I'm feeling so guilty because I'm using the hydrocodiene and oxycotin I was given. I use probably 1 to 1/2 daily. I know this is nowhere near addict level, but I guess it's the Catholic guilt kicking in. Thanks for listening to me whine. Oh, and my hair is falling out by the handfulls. I got my hair cut short and parted to the extreme side to cover the baldish spot. I go back to the dermatologist next week for hair growth injection shots again. Hope they work like they did last time. [ ] Re: Orencia question I'm in the same boat you are in. Wanna help paddle? Anyway, I've been on Orencia since late July of last year. After the first 3-4 months it started working less and less to where, after an infusion, I'd have two good weeks and two crap weeks. My Dr really doesn't want me to stop the ORencia though. He took me off methotrexate and put me on Arava. That helped some. I'm still having trouble though. He's talked about allowing me to change medications in a couple of months if I/we see no improvement. I confess I can't remember the name of the medication he mentioned. I started with an 'R' and is an infusion that is taken one time every 3-4 months or so. Sorry I can't be more specific. My brain-fog is really really bad lately. Dalanne > > I thought Orencia was working for me, but lately I've had some flaring again. I am consulting with a orthodontic surgeon next week. I've been on Orencia for four months. At first after the infusion, I will feel great. Two weeks before the next infusion, I feel like crap again. Does this mean Orencia isn't working for me and that I should try Remicade? Or is this as good as it gets. I'm afraid to try a new Devil in exchange for the 'devil I know. After quitting Arava, my hair has also come back curly. Kind of nice. I've lost a few strands since I started taking Imuran, but she doesn't notice it much.
