Guest guest
Mike, not likely. I have been on for a year and one-half. My experience is that the improvement isn't linear. Xolair binds IgE so at different moments in the year you might produce more IgE in a given moment than Xolair can bind out. Also, if you have had asthma for awhile, you have dealt with an inflammatory state in that time which can get so entrenched that it will not subside over night. While I noticed improvement in my atopy right away, I really didn't see the inflammation (for me in my esophagus, gut, skin and lungs) become significantly reduced for about one year. Also, meds like Singulair that barely worked for in the past, are for more effective now. The likely reason is that their are less eosinophils degranulating, so the Singulair can control symptoms better now than before. > > Hi all, > > I've been on Xolair since January of this year. My first 6 weeks or so were phenomenal. I took a case of bronchitis in mid February. Since then my peak flows have been in the very low yellow zone with a few drops into the red. Can Xolair start off strong and then diminish? Another oddity in my environment is that I live about 60 miles from the volcano going off in Alaska. We have a fair amount of 'volcanic haze' which is a mix of volcanic gasses and ash. I'm on steroids and increased nebs. My breathing was declining before the eruptions started, though. Thanks for the input. > > Mike >
Guest guest
Thank you for the input. I'd not htought about the seasonal component. We are just now entering 'breakup' and have a lot of dust form the sand they've used on the roads. Fir trees will be making bright yellow dust clouds soon. Life moves on. Again, my thanks for the feed back. Mike McBride Don't cry because it's over, laugh because it happened. Guest guest
UH, DUH, the volcano pollution can defintely contribute to asthma. Stay inside, wear a mask when outdoors, and I hope you have at least one good charcoal/hepa room filter to use in your bedroom. Best of luck to you in those bad circumstances. Guest guest
Face maks just like the doctor ordered, windows taped/sealed, steroids being taken, lots of movies ready to watch. My bad....no filter yet. Good reminder though. Mike McBride Don't cry because it's over, laugh because it happened. Guest guest
I haven't read everyone else's responses yet, but most of your trouble is probably the smoke and ash, which Xolair will not protect you from. That's particulate matter that is not IgE mediated. That said, I do very well on Xolair except with the spring pollen, which is just so overwhelming here that it finds a way to any IgE I have that has not been bound to Xolair, so I'm having a lot of trouble with my asthma each spring. It beats the near daily, year-round trouble I had prior to Xolair, but it is still a bummer. Good luck, keep your mask on!
