Guest guest
I had my six months checkup with my allergist and almost as an afterthought he asked me if I wanted to get my h1n1 shot! We were talking about the reg. flu shot and I told him I had already gotten it. He mentioned he had gotten one, too, and had a little sore throat from it. In retrospect, I would be very angry with him if I had found out later that he had the shots available and didn't offer it to me. However, I have learned with all of my doctors to ask about things like shots, etc. At any rate, I've had mine and all I've had is a little soreness in my arm. No other side effects. From: pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> Subject: [ ] I'm wondering Date: Saturday, November 7, 2009, 3:59 PM  what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms of how and where to get it? My pulmo's office will not have it for at least another month, but did not send out any type of notice letting patients know that they could sign up to get it at the local health department.. .. Also, I'm wondering if any of you know of any workplace clinics. My husband is a public school teacher. They are offering the regular flu shot on site at his school next week for folks on the state health plan, including family members. They're saying they will get the H1N1, but who knows.... Guest guest
Hi, I call my pulmo to check in once/month because I'm so immune-compromised, he doesn't want me sitting in his waiting room with a bunch of sick people unless I need to be seen. Anyway, when I called him at the end of October and asked about the H1N1 vaccine, he said that the way it's being distributed (at least in NY) is that doctor's offices/clinics who signed-up to receive more doses will get the vaccine first, therefore he said that my primary practice will get the vaccine long before his little practice will. The thing is though, I go to college in NJ, and it's looking like my college might have the vaccine before my primary in NY. So I might be getting vaccinated in NJ. Bottom-line - it's VERY frustrating, I don't even begin to understand why healthy 'health reporters' and people like that are receiving the vaccine before asthmatics but here's to hoping no one gets H1N1 before we find/get the vaccine! Guest guest
I am to call the community health office every Mon, Tues and Wed. Those are the days they MIGHT get some of the vaccine. It may be this week....it may be a month. No one knows.  Mike McBride O God do not leave me. I have done nothing good in your sight, but according to your goodness, let me now make a beginning of good. - Abba Arsenius ________________________________ From: pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> Sent: Sat, November 7, 2009 12:59:46 PM Subject: [ ] I'm wondering  what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms of how and where to get it? Guest guest
my pulmo suggested i get the h1n1 shot - she already has them in her office. i acutually said " no thank you " . i'm hoping i don't regret my decision, especially since one of my students just got out of the hosp with the " flu " (not sure what strain, i don't think they're testing anymore). my workplace (a school for children who are medically fragile and developmentally delayed) doesn't offer flu shots (yet they do cover HepB series). my husband's work place (a retirement/nursing home) gives the flu shot free AND usually gives out a gift as an incentive to get the shot. (last year it was a $50 AmEx card) the only thing is they have to wait til mid-november to get the shot. he hasn't heard if they'll offer the h1n1 shot this year. around here (NY), even the regular flu shots are VERY hard to come by. heather > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > of how and where to get it? Guest guest
- GO GET THE SHOT! It would be one thing to vascillate on this if you worked in an office with a very few people and limited exposure. It's a whole other issue b/c you work in a preschool facility. I implore you to follow 's advice. Addy > > > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > > of how and where to get it? Guest guest
Hello, I hope more people have been able to receive the H1N1 vaccine since it was last discussed... Of course NY state distributed it to my primary's office this week while I'm on an evil-candy taper for some nasty bronchitis - you can't get vaccinated if you're acutely ill apparently. I did get my Xolair yesterday though and my primary is 'holding a dose' of the H1N1 for me for 2 wks. So distribution is no longer the problem -- its my lungs! Ahhhhhh! Oh well, we'll be all set soon hopefully! I hope everyone had a healthy, happy & safe Thanksgiving! Guest guest
I got the H1N1 vaccine the day before Thanksgiving. Three days later I came down with a nasty URI that responding slower than usual to antibiotics. It may be coincidental to the vaccine, but I'll never know. Guest guest
Just to be clear, the H1N1 and seasonal vaccines do NOT cause you to get influenza or a respiratory infection. It takes about two weeks for your body to develop enough antibodies in response to these vaccines, so during that interim, it is possible for you to contract the flu for which you were vaccinated against. In addition to seasonal and H1N1 influenza, there are a multitude of cold viruses for which there is no vaccine, as well as other influenza viruses circulating that are not represented within either the seasonal or H1N1 vaccines. So the cause of your illness was not the vaccine, but another virus. There are plenty of nasty ones out there right now for which there is no vaccine. The best thing you can do for yourself and others is get vaccinated for those illness for which there IS a vaccine, wash your hands or use hand sanitizing cleansers frequently, practice cough etiquette if you ARE sick to avoid infecting others, and stay home if you do become ill. > > > > > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > > > of how and where to get it? Guest guest
I had the same thing happen but had chaulked mine up to me having mono and a weak immune system, never thought about the h1n1 vaccine being a possible culprit although I typically feel cruddy a few days after the regular flu shot almost like a cold or something. Mine responded well to antibiotics, but my antibiotic of choice is clindamycin due to all my drug allergies...not one I recommend if you have other options due to the havoc it wrecks on your digestive tract for weeks and months afterwards, it literally kills everything. > > > > > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > > > of how and where to get it? Guest guest
It probably was something you were already exposed to but ... I've skipped the flu vaccine for many years because I remember too well that the years I got the vaccine (obviously not the H1N1) it seemed like I had more severe and frequent infections. Interestingly, my sister, who has had trouble with long term bronchial infections every fall and winter for several years finally decided not to get the flu shot last year and wallah! She never did develop bronchitis. While I realize that this is all anecdotal and could be " explained away " I also know that vaccines in relationship to all people, including those of us with significant ongoing diseases are not really understood. There have been too many treatments out there over the years that were supposed to be harmless and they are not. One allergist told me about 6 years ago that it was not possible to have an allergic reaction to Xolair, for instance, because it was a biologic - not a drug. You can tell from this message board plus data from the govt and even Genentech that indeed some people *do* have an allergic reaction to Xolair. Not everyone, and not even most, but enough that we know people are different and " one man's medicine is another man's poison. " (forgive me for deffering to the male reference here) Of course, (smile) when I do come down with a URI, I will come here for consolation! (smile) > > > > > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > > > of how and where to get it? Guest guest
Most definitely...it's some seriously nasty stuff though, luckily it works great! > > > > > > > > what everyone's doctors have told them about the H1N1 shot in terms > > > > of how and where to get it?
