Guest guest
I have aspergillosis, or ABPA.? The asthma was never that horrible, but GERD and hiatal hernia when not controlled made me cough which put me in a spiral of coughting from acid, then wheezing from coughing.? Then, about 3 years ago, I started coughing really hard for maybe three weeks, I'd produce a little brown stick-like plug (icky poo) , then I'd be fine for a few weeks.? Then it would start again.? My xrays looked to most people who read them as pneumonia.? I finally asked to see a pulmonologist.? He sent me for several tests and came up with ABPA.? I've been on Xolair since April.? Not as thorough as prednisone, but I will still have my bones and liver at the end of the game. -----Original Message----- From: Janet Boss <janet@...> Sent: Thu, Aug 27, 2009 10:33 am Subject: [ ] did anyone start on Xolair for reasons other than " just " asthma? My allergist recommended it because my IgE level qualified but my asthma was well managed. My hives OTOH, were not. I had been asthmatic all of my life, but during my teens and twenties, it was barely there. A few months shy of 30, WHAM! I have been having increasing bouts of bronchitis and had pneumonia and my asthma came back with a vengeance. I also got hives for the first time in my life and they were massive, unrelenting and it took many months on pred and a lot of other drugs to get rid of them. When I finally did, I was still never able to stop hydroxyzine (which I've taken daily for the last 21 years+ now), but I had recurring bouts of hives and the episodes were getting closer together and taking longer to treat and wean from prednisone. I have been using Xolair (among other meds) for almost 4 years now, and had one tiny little hive outbreak in all that time, and it didn't require pred. A few days without hyrdoxyzine and I'd be ripping my skin off from itchiness (I have excema, well controlled). Guest guest
75% of the time, my asthma is triggered by what I call " severe persistent allergic sinus disease. " Xolair has improved my allergic sinus issues by about 85% in a dry year, and about 65-70% in a damp year; if the molds are really high, it's just not enough to catch all my IgE before the moldies do. Addy Group co-owner PS - I had severe hives as a child. Frightful things. I'm glad you've had improvement with X. > > My allergist recommended it because my IgE level qualified but my > asthma was well managed. Now, thanks to Xolair, I have been completely off for 5 years but the damage had been done. I was up to 210 pounds, had cataracts, became type II diabetic and the disks in my neck were herniated due to spinal bones becoming weak. Since Xolair, I have lost down to 170 pounds, had cataract surgery, 2 neck fusion surgeries (C-4 to 7 with metal plate) and my Diabetic A1C score went from 8.0 to 6.3. Thankfully, my liver functions have always come back normal. Xolair has given me a new lease on life Doug Group founder
Guest guest
Hi Janet. Although my daughter has mild to moderate asthma she was put on xoliar for her severe atopic dermatitis and dermagraphisim. She has been on since May 5th..dont see any change yet...hoping to see it soon. She was just put back on pred. because her AD was so bad..the pred. is helping but she is going to the low dose now(weaning) we are on vac. so it has helped her be comfortable. I hope it helps you soon. jean > > My allergist recommended it because my IgE level qualified but my > asthma was well managed.
