Yes, your TOTAL IgE increases over the course of a year, before it decreases.

This is because Xolair is an IgG molecule that binds (in several different

configurations) to IgE that in essence will not allow IgE to do what it normally

does.

Because of this binding, the clearance of the IgG-IgE complex is slowed down,

and your TOTAL IgE will increase. However, Your FREE IgE will decrease, leading

to part of the benefit of Xolair. Most assays that test for IgE only test for

TOTAL IgE, not FREE IgE.

There is nothing dangerous about this, safety of Xolair in general is, safe,

what is happening is normal and expected.

already off the charts wouldn't this be dangerous? It is something I read on a

few web sites and it concerns me. thanks. jean

The Total IgE value will go up, but when on Xolair, the test is pretty useless

anyway as what is being counted isn't " effective " IgE. Xolair forms complexes

with IgE that renders it unable to do it's bad stuff, these complexes take

longer to clear, therefore increasing the IgE number. I've heard of patients

with serum IgE values of 200 going up past 1000 when on treatment, but with no

adverse effects.

I started Xolair for my Cholinergic Urticaria today - fingers crossed it does me

some good!

Thank you .

My daughter's IgE is already 5,981 and she is very atopic(mostly her skin)

so I was concerned her symptoms would increase. I do feel better now.

I'll keep yo in my thoughts and my fingers crossed :). Let me know how you

are doing. Jean

Thank you.

I just responded to s post and you both make me feel better about the

xolair.

we just got back from the drs. and she has another sinus infection and

brochitis and her asthma has flared. I guess this confirms it is time to start

xolair. jean
