It is strange but my asthma did not get any worse. Usually, when I get a chest cold or flu the asthma kicks in worse. Don't know if that was the xolair or sleeping more when sick. Guest guest
I get sinus infections almost continuously - they usually are preceded by a cold. Guest guest
I NEVER get the flu. Ever. I know of no evidence that Xolair improves immunity. However, many of us who've responded well to it have noticed less frequency of respiratory illness and less severity as well. Probably b/c the decrease of frequency has allowed our systems or heal more thoroughly prior to the next onset of symptoms. The only impact that I suspect Xolair would have related to swine flu is if a Xolair patient's asthma-prednisone-asthma cycle had diminished and the patient's lungs had improved significantly prior to onset of swine flu so that the flu didn't aggravate the asthma so badly. Even then, it would still vary greatly by patient. I just had a discussion with my pulmo about this. He is not worried about swine flu in our community, but said if he were, his only patients for whom he would be really concerned would be those on radiation or with HIV or who have immunecompromised status for some other reason. Guest guest
According to CNN.com the young Texas woman who recently died after getting swine flu " had been diagnosed with asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis " . So it would appear to follow that people with asthma should be more alert to the disease and be especially vigilant if their asthma is not well controlled. Naturally we can't generalize from one case. But any responses here about the severity of the disease from people with asthma that get the swine flu would help paint the picture. There was some suspicion that swine flu might cause an overreaction of the immune system leading to death from respiratory problems. So Xolair users might have a better defense since, as I understand it, the net effect of Xolair is to reduce the severity of overreaction of the body to foreign invaders, in Xolair's case allergens. I'm just hypothesizing ... it's a little food for thought...(insert all the disclaimers you can dream up here). > > > > I get sinus infections almost continuously - they usually are preceded by a cold. > > > > Ohldepharte > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: mister_manganese > > > > Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 2009 4:02 AM > > Subject: [ ] Swine flu anyone? > > > > > > > > > > > > Have any of the Xolair users here got the swine flu? > > > > I know it's hard to believe, but I haven't had a cold or the flu since starting Xolair almost three years ago.
