Guest guest
Hi Tricia, How exciting that you are getting started. I don't think we have infusion centers here in Arizona, but I am just a beginner and have lots to learn. I am going in next week to see my allergist and find out how the paper work is going. I have been reading the posts for a few weeks now and I am sure all these wonderful people will be there to offer you support and guidance if you need it. Marilyn > > Well after all the paperwork and such. I am scheduled on Thursday to get my first 2 shots. My dose will be 2 shots every 2 weeks. I am nervous, but my guess everyone was at first. My pulm makes me get them given at the infusion center at the hospital. So I will be getting to know those people well. > > Tricia >
Guest guest
There's nothing to be nervous about, Tricia. I've been getting two shots every two weeks for several years. They're less painful than a mosquito bite for me which means I usually don't even feel them. These shots are shallow ... a small needle just under the skin. And since I often run into other patients I've got to know it's a brief social encounter. I've never had any reaction to the shots. From what I've heard and read, reactions are very rare. But you'll probably be asked to remain at the center for a while just in case. What I look forward to at this time is enjoying the Spring season without fear of reactions to pollen. > > Well after all the paperwork and such. I am scheduled on Thursday to get my first 2 shots. Guest guest
Tricia, Wow, you got your shots already. I am so glad for you. I will be following your posts, so keep the news coming. I saw my allergist today, my IGE is low, but he wants to test again in a few weeks. Would like me to take a pneumonia shot, but am feeling kinda yucky with wheezing so am waiting till next week. I had a super duper air purifier put in yesterday in my home and wouldn't you know it, when they turned it on the register blew attic insulation all over the room. His particulate meter went off the chart, and today I am sick. Geez, what kind of luck is that. You on on your way, and I am hoping to join you in a few weeks. Guest guest
For insurance reasons they wanted to check my rast??level. Well it ended up in normal range, so they ended up submitting an Ige level from 6 weeks before and got approval. What I don't understand is they want your levels to be sky high, I don't know about you but, I take several allergy meds that can't be stop for certain labs plus I take 20mg steroids daily. I'm sure they mess with lab levels. Guest guest
I just had my second set of shots and I have had a lot of improvement.....I did get the worst headache(12 hours) after the first shots but I didn't get it after the second. I have been suffering for years.......this year was the worst after getting a normal cold in Nov. I never got better and finally got to see a Pulm. Dr. and he tested me and found out that I am allergic to everything.....I had to be rushed to the hospital after taking symbicort for five weeks and nothing else did anything......so sick......I am just still going through terrible fatigue........it is the one area I haven't seen any improvement in. I usually swim 4-6 miles a week......not since november......I am back swimming two miles on the weekends but have no energy........does anyone have a similair experience? I am trying to hopeful but I am down after being sick for so many months......I didn't have any prolems with getting insurance coverage for Xolair but not coverage for the epipen??? > > > > > > Hi Tricia, How exciting that you are getting started. Guest guest
The fatigue hopefully will begin to go away with adequate rest and a balanced diet. After what you have been through, it sounds like to me that it will take a little time for you to get back to where you were before November. Glad you are on xolair. It has really helped me in so many ways. Interestingly, I do feel a little tired the afternoon after my shot and the next day, but after that I have no problem...only when I don't get enough sleep!  Hope you continue to improve! Been on xolair for four years in June! From: chandellelaforest <chandellelaforest@...> Subject: [ ] Re: FIRST SHOTS! Guest guest
In 2003 when I got my first shots I was nervous but here it is almost 7 years later and getting them is just a routine part of my life. Here is one of my typical Friday to do lists: 1 Go to the office for a bit 2. Start laundry 3. Go to grocery store 4. Get xolair shots 5. Come home and start lunch 6. Finish laundry 7. Mow lawn. Congrats on getting your shots. Doug Group founder
Guest guest
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I get the third set next Friday so it will be interesting to see if the fatigue improves. I am not using inhalers, hardly......maybe once a day? I can't wait to get off some stuff.....it's all too expensive. I see my doctor on May 10th so I am going to try to get off Bravana or at least switch to less expensive perforomist. I am on singular, some allergy pill that starts with " x " nasonex, proair, and bravana. I just don't have and energy and I am a very athletic high energy person.....I am goijg to swim my two miles this weekend and when school gets out do my usual 5/6 miles a week. May be I am just so out of shape after being immobile since november...........? > > > > > > > > Hi Tricia, How exciting that you are getting started. Guest guest
Are you taking xopenex? I think that is the way it is spelled. Looking at all the various posts, it is interesting to me to see the various combinations of medicines. I have been on the same four for about 7 or 8 years now and since my asthma is pretty stable, I doubt my doctor will change it anytime soon. Even with the xolair, if I stop any one of the four (like when I run out), I can only go for about three or four days before I begin to notice the difference. I take singulair, advair, spiriva and allegra. I have pro-air hepa albuterol rescue inhaler, and I keep the vials for the neb in case I need an extra boost, which is almost never. I do take the nebulizer with me when I travel and my doc insists that I keep a series of prednisone in my purse at all times. I am supposed to have an epi-pen, but after two years of not needing one, I didn't get another one since my co=pay is rather high for the epi's.  From: chandellelaforest <chandellelaforest@...> Subject: [ ] Re: FIRST SHOTS! Guest guest
Here is my list of meds: I think its interesting to compare. Nexium, zyflo CR, flonase, zyrtec, advair 500/50, prednisone 20mg, lasix, calcium, potassium, combivent PRN, duoneb PRN and oxygen 2L at night and PRN. And of course xolair! Guest guest
I didn't think to mention that I also take the generic acid reflux reducer in the morning. I use nasonex and aciphex when I am having sneezing/drippy nose, but do not use them on a regular basis. I take a " Senior " vitamin, and 1200 mg of Calcium. I also take a special vitamin for my eyes. And I use two eye drops for glaucoma. From: chandellelaforest <chandellelaforest> Subject: [ ] Re: FIRST SHOTS! Guest guest
FYI: xolair does not address acid reflux. also, calcium supplementation without added magnesium and vit d has been shown by studies to be almost useless.
