Guest guest
I use three vials twice a month. I think my dose is based on my weight and the other factorsd. I am currently working and dreaming about losing weight. I hope then to have my dosage lowered. Gwendolyn Rafter From: ellen84842008 <ellencohen@...> Subject: [ ] Dosing Xolair Date: Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 8:30 PM Â I am wondering how increasing xolair dosing is done. I know that the shot dosage and/or times per month given is usually based on blood IgE levels, however, I am wondering if anyone in the group has had to get more per dose or had additional shots added in their regimen. I am taking the 150 dose per month my food induced asthma and eosinophilic gastro disease (gut tissue is very high for IgE but not present in my blood) but I am still not doing very well with my breathing. I suggested to my doctor that perhaps we add another 150 shot monthly and awaiting his response. Any feedback would be great. I have just gotten my 5th shot and I know the drug can take a good while to work. Best, Ellen C
Guest guest
Well when I gained weight due to taking prednisone long term, my dose increased from 225 mg to 300 mg every 2 weeks... I have read that xolair does nothing for food allergies, etc. (or at least it is not approved for them). Like you, I have food allergies but I still must avoid most foods, etc. I had the esophageal eosophinial biopsy in August but it was negative. I am a mess. ________________________________ From: ellen84842008 <ellencohen@...> Sent: Wed, February 24, 2010 7:30:47 PM Subject: [ ] Dosing Xolair I am wondering how increasing xolair dosing is done. Guest guest
Everyone's dosage is supposed to be figured by their weight and IgE levels. Here's a link (via Genentec's web) that has the administration chart for individuals 12 yrs. and older. The part a few of you are wondering about is on page 3 of the pdf. http://www.gene.com/gene/products/information/pdf/xolair-prescribing.pdf Hope this helps answer numerous questions. Guest guest
start trying to walk a bit more even 5 min a day, etc. and it helps to get your stamina built up to where you can progressively exercise a bit more very gradually...we are not in a competition. eat smaller portions--3 oz of protein, half cup servings of veggies, etc. cut back or eliminate sauces, butter, etc. do it all gradually. baby steps. ashleigh ________________________________ From: Gwendolyn Rafter <gwen5052@...> Sent: Thu, February 25, 2010 8:30:40 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Dosing Xolair I use three vials twice a month. Guest guest
i think they should look at bmi also because if you have a high percentage of body fat, it seems as if the xolair would not work as effectively...and maybe women metabolize differently as we tend to have a bit more of body fat to begin with. JMHO>Ashleigh ________________________________ From: K K <grneyyedlady@...> Sent: Thu, February 25, 2010 12:45:36 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Dosing Xolair  Everyone's dosage is supposed to be figured by their weight and IgE levels. Guest guest
Thanks for the info - the website chart helped me form a few questions for my doc. Also thought I would add this link to the recent pubmed.gov on food allergy and xolair. I believe this drug will eventually be used and approved as an safety net for the food allergic - I am taking it off label because currently there is very little testing done for tissue IgE biomarkers. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20167148?itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.P\ ubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum & ordinalpos=2 You can also find the info by going to pubmed and typing in xolair. Guest guest
Look into the Zone diet. It is an anti-inflammatory diet that balances fats, proteins, and carbs. Not only will it help your asthma but it will help in good health in general. By all means, avoid all types of processed foods and sugar. Sugar from good sources, such as apples and oranges, and such, should also be minimized in accordance with the zone diet. The nutrients you're after are typically in the skin so peel the apple, eat the peel and toss the rest. Good eating!
