Guest guest
Hi there, I, too am iron deficient and not sure why. I went into the emergency room back in June because of an awful flu like sickness and found out I was very low in iron. I get muscle cramps very easily, too! What are problems associated with low iron??? Does anyone know? Thanks, Lynn
Guest guest
I've been anemic since I was a teenager and my biggest problem is with muscle cramps. I can tell if I forget to take my supplements, because my toes will cramp so badly that they point in all different directions. Ouch! The cramping is caused by lack of oxygen to the muscles (not enough red blood cells to carry it) so I would imagine that anemia is extra bad for asthmatics. It also makes me dizzy. It can lead to other health problems if left untreated too long. If it gets bad enough it's called pernicious anemia and that can kill you. This is also known as Vampires Disease due to the extreme paler, sensitivity to light, and the craving for any source of iron including bloody raw meat! A simple google search will tell you more. > > Hi there, > I, too am iron deficient and not sure why. Guest guest
, I was anemic before I started using Xolair. It has gotten slightly worse since then, but my doctors feel that it's caused by my heavy periods. The anemia is responding slightly to the iron supplements I take. Guest guest
Oh man, I hope this does not happen to me. I went thru years of being anemic and got a procrit shot and took 3 pills a day but it did come up to normal. THe last test I had it was just slightly below normal. So with a history of anemia this concerns me. I had to call the dr. office to see why they haven't called me, it has been like 4 weeks now. She faxed over the info again to the company. And night before last a lady called me from the company and asked me all kinds of questions so I am hoping that things will start soon. How long did it take you all to get started? My iron stores emptied out a month after I started xolair 4 years ago and no one knows why. Its likely going to be reported as adverse event to Health Canada. I'm not absorbing the supplements so I will llikely need IV iron refills. (otherwise doing WAY better so no one is stopping the X). __________________________________________________________ The new Internet Explorer® 8 - Faster, safer, easier. Guest guest
I don't think Xolair caused my problem, since I haven't taken it since Jan. I went to donate blood a month ago and couldn't, I have never really had problems with iron in the past so I was sort of surprised. My iron was normal, but on the very bottom of the range and I had donated before. I was told by the workers drinking a lot of soft drinks interferes with body's absorption on iron. I probably should follow up on that to see if it is accurate info and if it is the caffeine in it or other something else. FYI I was taken off Xolair because of an allergic reaction, not sure if it was anaphylactic. I did have anaphylactic reactions to allergy shots in the past so shots were discontinued. The Xolair reaction was some what similar to other allergic reactions but didn't seem as severe. More on the order of the reactions I have had to some NSAIDs. Just wanted to give everyone an update, I haven't had a shut down episode yet, but I had a cold last month and came close. I am still off Prednisone, but I no longer work, I went out on a disability in 2006 for other reasons, so I don't know how much of a factor that has played in my staying healthy as far as my asthma. Xolair was a life saver to me when I started it in August 2005, I was able to get off pred, and I was having 5 exacerbations a year, since then one exacerbation due to an allergic reaction to a medication.
