Guest guest
Hi Jan....and welcome to the group. I've been on Xolair since January of this year and have had remarkable results. Enough so that even as a heart patient, I am continuing with the injections. I had some heart symptoms in October of 2006 but the (mostly) went away...I thought. It has been suggested that my shortness of breath was part asthma and part heart. Now that the asthma is largely under control, what remains is cardiac and can be addressed more appropriately now. I have not been offered the opportunity to take the shots at home. I drive 3 hours, each way, to Anchorage for my shots, once per month. There are a few months when the temps are sub-zero. I'd choose to take the meds at home if that becomes an option. Best wishes as you start this trip. Guest guest
Hi, Jan, welcome to the group! I've been taking Xolair for 6 years. It's greatly improved my asthma and severe allergic sinus disease, so much so that I actually have a life now. I give my Xolair to myself at home. There's only a couple of us whose docs allow us to do that. The info on increase in heart attacks and strokes - that study has not been completed and full info has not been released. Since poorly controlled lung diseases, such as asthma, can cause increased strain on the heart, it's important to have all the information. I hope they're able to release that soon. I developed hypertension 2 years ago. My pulmo blames it on too much prednisone. Along with the osteoporosis, changes in appetite, and so on. Good luck; let us know how you do with the Xolair. Guest guest
Hi Doug, I didn't know that there was more than 1 shot involved. No where did the litature say that. Great!!! NOT! I sure hope this works for me. I am a little nervous about it due to the findings about heart attacks and strokes. But I guess most drugs have the same warnings. I hate steroids, they have caused me to get diabetes and osterporosis. Thank you for the welcome. Jan From: uca79iii@... Guest guest
Hi Mike, it is so good to hear that you are helped by this med. I do not know anyone who is taking it. The doc did say he has several people on it for 4 years and they are doing well. I just went into and put in asthma and found this group, the word xolair caught my eye. I am so happy I have found you all. Can the resp doc send the serum to your local doc and they can give you the shots? Mine said I could give them to myself after a few times (just to make sure I do not have a reaction to it). But I will way the pros and cons of doing this. You never know when you may have a reaction. I just wonder why he waited so long to tell me about this med. I had to pass (actually fail) pft and blood tests to get into the program. I had atrial fib and am on meds for that and right now it is under control so will be on the alert for that reoccuring. Thanks for the welcome and hope to hear from you all again. Guest guest
Hi Addy, thanks for the welcome. I read a few older posts and saw you discussing the mayo findings. Wonder why they seem opposed to it? Guess time will tell. Like I told Mike I will see how it goes after a few months and then see if I can give it to myself. Hey good luck with the high bp. Guest guest
Hi Jan, We are considering having a local doctor administer the meds. Right now I have business meetings (that could be telephonic) that I attend on the same day. Tying to take care of multiple issues at once. If the company decides to save money, which is what I advocate, then the meetings will be telephonic and the monthly trips become a day of leave instead of a day of travel and being on the clock. Lots of reasons to get the shots sent locally. My local doc has not prescribed Xolair before and refered me to the pulmonologist in Anchorage. We'll see what happens Mike McBride ________________________________ From: Janice A <janicem611@...> Sent: Friday, September 4, 2009 7:37:00 AM Subject: RE: [ ] good afternoon all Hi Mike, it is so good to hear that you are helped by this med. It's no big deal anymore, just part of my life. Some people only need one, some need two and I hear that some even need 3 xolair shots. I was oh 40 mg a day of Prednisone (Se call it " Evil Candy " in the group) for several years. I developed cataracts at age 43 and had surgery for them. This was dangerous because I had successful cornea transplants in 1980 due to another disease. My C-spine started falling apart on me. Now I have C4 through 7 fused with a metal plate between 6 & 7. I also became type II Diabetic and was up to 220 pounds. Xolair has saved me from that EVIL stuff and I now have my life back Personally, I believe that Prednisone has caused much MUCH MORE danger to the heart than Xolair ever has or will. Thanks for joining our group. God Bless Doug Group founder
