Guest guest
She has lived with us for 7 years and has had mild asthma. You know, the kind where she takes an albuterol inhaler about twice a month? Well, her asthma has become much worse. She has been nebbing with albuterol 4 times a day and after I had to take her to the ER once, they added atrovent to the mix! She is started taking Aricept for the beginnings of Alzheimer's and Dementia about a year ago and it is working GREAT for her however, her asthma has become worse just in the last two months. I saw on the Aricept web page that you should notify your doctor if you have asthma before taking it. If she goes off the Aricept her mental state gets MUCH worse so it looks like we will have to step up the asthma medications. At least she lives with an asthma expert LOL! Sigh! Guest guest
Doug, there are other medications for beginning stages of Alzheimers. It might be worth discussing it with her doctors. Guest guest
A relative who has mild dementia took Aricept several years ago but it triggered diabetes - another known side effect. I had no idea it could mess up asthma, too! The relative DOES have asthma. Perhaps there's something about it that messes with the autoimmune system? It seems like his asthma has worsened over the years and now that I think about it .... There's Namenda (my relative takes that) and others - like Carol said, it's good to pursue additional or other treatments. Another thought ... if one is not getting enough air or has labored breathing, it's going to cause lightheadedness and other mental effects. > > > > She has lived with us for 7 years and has had mild asthma.
