Guest guest
I don't give a flying flip if it is not required but since the FDA has only strengthend the black box and not lightened up on it, I would think the epi pen requirment has NOT been altered...some doctor's offices just seem to fall down on proper protocol...i am amazed at how much i learned in patient education programs at National Jewish as opposed to in a regular doctor's office...seriously sometimes the staff and doctors seem like lame children to me as opposed to the National Jewish staff. Leigh ________________________________ From: Ol Wheezy <uca79iii@...> Sent: Mon, March 1, 2010 7:40:13 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Was: Shots yesterday, now Epi Pens  --- In , McBride <mike.dmcbride@ ...> wrote: > > My doctor's office also gets me in and out rapidly. They used to check my Epi at the front dask and again by the person giving the shot. No Epi....no shot. They tell me now that the Epi is good to have but no longer required. I keep mine as my drive home has me about 1.5 hours away from medical support at one point. I also don't have cell coverage the entire way home. Anyway.....has anyone else been told that the Epi is no longer required? >  Mike McBride > > The first thing my nurse asks me is " do you have your epi's? Guest guest
i keep a pen in the bathroom in a special box on the counter and threatened my maid that i would stick her with it if she ever moved it and hid it the way she does everything else in my life, keep 2 in my purse and one in the kitchen...it's not hard at all to do this...a friend of mine who was allergic to bees died because he kept his pens in his car trunk...was bitten in the back yard and did not make it to find his car keys, unlock the car, locate the pens and 911 found him doa. very sad. Guest guest
You are living dangerously if you don't carry your Epipen when getting your Xolair or allergy shots. Both my mother and brother died from allergic reactions to meds. My doctor and nurse will ot give shots unless I show its with me. Also, I'm not sure if the Epipen should be refridgerated...it might affect the med. I may be wrong, but was told to keeP within a room temp range. Guest guest
I've never used one in my 51+ years of life. Someone advised me to keep it in the fridge at some point. I realize that was in error. Not the end of the world, since it is a 2-pack and the other is elsewhere. I've been doing immunotherapy off and on since the late 80's and Xolair since September of 2005. I'm with you on the room temp though - 77 and I'd be cranking up the AC! Guest guest
I carry my epi in my purse. The nurse said I did not have to wait after my shot. I did the first couple but not now. I read the info on zolair and it says you can have a reaction even days later...........that is scary, how would you know it was from the shot? May today be twice as good as yesterday and half as good as tomorrow. Jan From: rrgrimes_u3@...
