Guest guest
Hello everybody, its been sometime since i've posted a comment or anything like that here on the subject on xolair. I've been on the shots for 3 yrs , I had an alergic reaction in June 2009 to the shot. Thank goodness it happend while I was still at the hospital. The emergency team they call " The Rat Pack " were so quick to react. Good thing I also had my Eppie Pen with me. I still get the shots. I take 50mg. of Benedril befor my shots. Here it is 9 months later March 2010 and I had another reaction. My face and lips got real tingley, tongue felt like it was swelling, queezyness, sweating, and felt like the chair I was sitting in had ahold of me as if it didn't want me to move. The chair part sounds a little far fetched, but I have no other way to explain it. Again the nurses in O.P.P. at the hospital were quick to respond. It wasn't as severe as the first time, thank God. They put in an I.V. and and big dose of solumedrol I started to feel better. I go and see my respitory Dr. next month. Not sure whats going to happen. Has anybody else have this happen? Changing the subject, I started using a C-PAP for severe sleep apnia.I have noticed an improvement in my breathing during the day time also. I just wanted to share that paet with you also. my prayers are with you all Jeanne
Guest guest
Sorry to hear that happened Jeanne. Oh to start off with, I don't know if this will explain your 'chair reaction', but when I was having an epidural a number of years ago (my first) my BP really started dropping, I was laying down at the time and I couldn't move (really a strange sensation), they finally noticed and saved the day. From now on, they add something anytime I have epidurals. I guess that was some type of allergic reaction. I had an allergic reaction to Xolair just over a year ago. My doctor took me off of it, period. He said we would visit the subject of starting it again if I get to the point I was before I started Xolair (Aug 2005). I wasn't everyday pred, but I was everyother day 20mg, and flair ups about 5 times a year. Once I started Xolair, I had no more flare ups, and over the first year was weaned off pred. I actually haven't had problems since I stopped Xolair last year. I felt I have come close a couple of times when I have had colds/sinus infections. I am still on Singular, Allegra, Nexium, Symbicort and Maxair. I had to stop working a couple of years ago, and currently back issues really limit my activity (exercise induced component to my asthma). I don't know how much not working factors into my not having problems right now, I do know my IgE levels were fairly low from what they could have been, but Xolair definitely made an impact. I also had two reactions to allergy shots, 4 months apart, then the doctor stopped those. Those were what I would describe as more anaphylactic than the reaction to Xolair. Of course you're getting something you know you are allergic to with allergy shots. With those if felt as if my throat was closing off and I couldn't swallow. With the Xolair reaction, I started coughing and wheezing. All three reactions started within 5-10 minutes of receiving the shots. My doctor has always been a '20 minutes in his office after injections' type of guy; so his nurse was right there with the epi shots and neb. I also have allergies to IVP dye, Celebrex, and Clinoril, but with arthritis I do take aspirin and other NSAIDS without problems. My apologies to the narrators for this being so lengthy, but I wanted to provide as much info as possible. There is rarely a one size fits all asthma. Of course I am preaching to the choir.
