Guest guest
I have only had asthma almost 4 years now. But they did try me on theophylline for awhile. I went to a new pulminologist who was sure I didn't have asthma and ended up just taking me off all my meds. I ended up 2 days later in the hospital. The hospital doctors decided to not put me back on the theophylline since we didn't really see improvement while on it. Guest guest
My sister took the tedral and the theophylline. She used the Asthmanefrin squeeze bulb all the time and tried so hard not to get any of that on anything as it stained every thing it touched and she hated it when she got it on her clothes as it was very hard to get it out. Don't remember what Mother used.  Mother would give me Tedral on the rare occasion I had an attack..maybe two times as a child. Guest guest
Took those and more! Amazing that OTC inhalers were popular. Janet -- Sent from my iPhone wherever I may be! Guest guest
Yes, I took all of those as a child. Quadrinal was the first Medicine that actually worked well. Quadrinal caused my thyroid to enlarge so I had to switch to a similiar drug called verequad. ________________________________ From: " mom2alexnabbie@... I hated licorice LOL! I also remember my mom giving me something that was a combination of theopholine and Valium. Was that tedral? I remember being so panicked that my asthma became much worse. One tab and 20 minutes I was sleeping like a baby and breathing down to my toes.
Guest guest
Funny you should mention that! The very first Xolair talk I gave I mentioned that I had been on Quadrinal as a kid and one doctor started cracking up! SO I was like...so you think it's funny because I was on an ancient drug....but YOU were old enough to prescribe it! LOL!! That was such a fun meeting! ________________________________ From: DougB <uca79iii@...> Sent: Mon, July 5, 2010 3:06:14 PM Subject: [ ] Blast from the Past Asthma Rx's As a kid, I took meds called Quadrinal and Tedral, also theopholline. Guest guest
Doug, Theophylline at lower dosages has been found to be beneficial in some patients. I do better when I am on it... Oh yes indeedy I know that " new doctor thinks you don't have asthma syndrome " very well...now I have flunked the methacholine challenge at National Jewish in Denver which should be proof enough (decreased by 50 per cent on the first real dose of methacholine--HELLO).  Yet, second best pulmonary department wants me to discontine xolair, nebs, and just use my rescue inhaler when I need it...everytime I alter my program, I get so congested that I too end up in the hospital...what part of " patient is treading water on meds " do doctors not grasp? I am just sick of it all. Anyway, these are my humble two cents worth. I hope all are well as there is crazy weather, heavy mold from rains and much grass pollen all over a good portion of the US. You know, I STILL run into doctors and pharmacists that have never heard of Xolair. Good grief, the stuff is 7 years old? Every doctor, nurse and respiratory therapist that I saw when I had my 4 day bout in the hospital a few months ago had never heard of it. I was NOT in the hospital for asthma it was for (as the doctor said) " The Stomach Bug From Hell "
Guest guest
I have yet to find a doctor outside of ID/pulmonology who has heard of xolair and most have not heard of Vivaglobin which is my sub-q ivig--I suppose they may think I am from Mars--ahhhh that's it--no wonder I am so allergic to here on Mother Earth. Guest guest
Ashleigh My pulmo sent me to the other one for insurance reasons, so he could get me to Denver. That dr is the one that tried taking me off all my asthma meds so I could do the meth chol challenge. He tried 2 times 6 months apart and both times within 2 days I was hospitalized. He decided it wasn't worth it just for a meth challenge. He didn't understand how I could be on pretty much EVERY asthma med and my PFT's are still high 60's. Now I started xolair and hopefully will soon be off(after 3 solid years) steroids. Then they are going do an open biopsy and see what it shows. Both drs feel I have an underlying lung disease along with asthma. We will see soon hopefully. Guest guest
It was GREAT...the group I talked to were a lot of fun....even though we were talking about a very serious subject. It's pretty sad that all that money was spent on training us and now they aren't even doing those lectures anymore. It's even sadder that Xolair has been FDA approved for " Adults " but doctors aren't using it more for their patients. Guess they'd rather we spend oodles and oodles of money on rescue inhalers, " evil candy " , and all those other asthma drugs that " we " take on a daily basis just to be able to survive. ________________________________ From: DougB <uca79iii@...> Sent: Mon, July 5, 2010 7:04:20 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Blast from the Past Asthma Rx's > > Funny you should mention that! Guest guest
Yes! Theopholline...but I list it as a drug I'm allergic to because it kept me awake for 3 days. I could breathe great, but I need sleep too! My internist hasn't heard of xolair either, and he's an asthmatic. I give him credit though, he researched it and is waiting to hear from me how my experience goes. > > > As a kid, I took meds called Quadrinal and Tedral, also theopholline. > Even though my asthma doctor in the 60's forbade me to take my dad's squeeze bulb OTC Asthma Nefrin, I did anyway. Guest guest
I took Tedral as a child and then got some kind of adrenaline inhaler which made my heart race but did help. I have been on theophylline for 20 years and it is the only thing that really helps my asthma. I am also on Pulmicort, Foradil, and Singular. Occasional asthma attacks of course which require prednisone.
