Guest guest
Ok I can't imagine asthma people keeping birds.? I can't even walk into a pet store without feeling that tightening throat and panic.? We have an aquarium with fishies and a few spiders who live in the tall corners of the house.? I borrow the neighbor's cat to play with outside and immediately wash my hands and face when I come in. I also get to play with people's dogs when I'm in their house to tune their piano. -----Original Message----- From: pteropus.seychellensis@... Guest guest
FWIW, parrot dander/dust makes my lungs close up. My finches are about 10 grams each, no dander, no handling. With my parrotlet, I do have to be careful and immediately wash my hands afterwards and don't touch my face. I'm a loon about cleaning the bird area. We have 2 hepa filters in apt. I vacuum the bird area every day. I use puppy pads as bird cage liners (4ft x 3ft flight cages), that has really cut down the mess. I'm allergic to dogs, but washing him every other week helps. Worse for me is the wall to wall carpeting (old and yukky), and the nasty forced air furnace. The duct work is so filthy. My allergist would love to see the pets go. I grew up with no pets, and my parents had hard wood floors. I was just as sick and miserable. There were some days, when the only thing that got me going were the peeved calls of the finches wonder when their morning snacks were coming. They are my cheap therapy. Ha ha. Guest guest
You know I have had dogs almost all my life and the few years I did not I still had problems. Mine do not bother me but my daughter's minpin did, but then he was up around my neck and in my face while I was sitting on the couch. I have heard different opinions about those hepa filters. Do you think they really work? Jan From: pteropus.seychellensis@... Date: Sun, 27 Sep 2009 16:03:02 +0000 Subject: Re: OT pets/Re: [ ] Re: Off topic FWIW, parrot dander/dust makes my lungs close up. I use a dish heater that I got at costco and it works very well. My old doctor also wanted me to get rid of my cats. When my my new doctor saw that in my records, she scoffed and rolled her eyes. It's one of the reasons she's still my doctor. Now if we could just get rid of our carpet!
