Guest guest
Hi , I'm not sure but my said no scratting so I guess that mean no sitting on the floor but I had my operation five years ago a lot of things could change in that among of time . You live in Japan thats kind of neat to e-mail someone from their my daughter x Husband was half japanese so my grandson is 1/4 japanese and he has red hair that was a surprise because my daughter and his dad both have dark hair but there is red hair in our family .Well I wish you the best of luck. I walked up to the store its like I think four or five blocks both ways I'm lucky I have benches to rest on. I use a shopping cart since I gave up driving some lady wanted to give me a ride home I told her the walk was good for me . Susie Cook <lcoqc@...> wrote: Hello Susie, I will ask the doctor about the bed and other things, if I get a chance. I have a pre-op interview or session a week before the surgery at which I get to ask questions, though I think it will be the doc's assistant. I'm not sure I like the idea of not being able to sit on the floor. Is that a restriction, or a matter of choice? (I lived in Japan for 14 years and did not own a chair. No place for one in a traditional Japanese house.Great way to live if you don't like furniture.) I'm 54, and (nevertheless) still enjoy doing yoga. Some of the exercises involve violating the 90 degree rule by about 85 degrees; they are strenuous but exhilarating. I sometimes wonder if I should wait a few years until someone devises an artifical hip which doesn't require the 90 degree restriction? Hi ,I would asked the dr about the bed you sleep in I haven't knee down on the floor or sat on the floor in five years :-)Are you over 40 ?I wish you luck , Susie

I forget who was talking about contemplating losing their bone forever but there was a moment for me where I had to consider that this operation was a permanent thing worse than getting my ears pierced. And I remember thinking that I would like to put this off for as long as possible. I have young children and my family likes to go and do. I have been accused at times of being " lazy " because I didn't want to get up and move around. That bothered me. I look so healthy on the outside. I was in enough pain that I wouldn't want to get in the car and drive to Walmart and walk around for an hour or so. We went to Savannah to visit my parents a few years back and we walked about a mile down River Street (a cobblestone road of shops and restaurants). When we got to the end, I almost panicked because I was in so much pain and I was thinking, " How in the world am I going to get back to the car? " I did it. But it wasn't easy. Another time we were at the zoo. Our zoo is a long walk. I have never measured it but it takes about 3 hours to walk the whole thing. Again, I had to quit. Then I lost my family and it was a bad situation. So most of the time after that, my husband would take them without me. That was no fun just sitting here. Everything we did, everywhere we went, we had to consider, " Can Vera make it the whole way? " I really hated that. I don't know why but my cartilage disappeared one day. In weighing all my options, I felt like it was important for me to be able to walk around like the rest of my family. So that is why I personally chose to have this done. But if I could have gotten around like you are getting around, shoot, I would have waited at least a few more years. Vera
Guest guest
You don't realize what you are missisng before THR. Now waiting for revision on Monday at 6:16 am, I am wondering if I need it now. Then we went out to eat, went to Staples to get a few office supplies and went to get some fresh fruit. I was worn out by the time to get dog food. Only 3 hours of mostly driving and I am in pain and exhausted. So, IS IT TUESDAY YET! Sorry, just had to scream. You all who have had surgery know what the wait can be like. And you all that have had surgery know what a blessing it is to be done and over and on the way to a more normal life. My ramblings for now. Sue > I agree with you . Guest guest
Tell your doctor. Concerned I just took my first dose of Lexapro at 9PM (it's 4 AM now). I woke up two hours ago with sweating, dry heaves, and abdominal cramps. I'm exhausted but obviously cannot sleep. I am afraid to take another dose. How long will this last if I take no more? I appreciate any enlightenment....

Brit, I too once bought some Kombucha brewing buckets from a Kombucha supplier #2 HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), which make excellent brewing buckets. Although I have no problems using these, as they get older and are showing signs of wear and tear I am now gradually replacing them with glass containers. Good and large enough glass containers are not easy to find here in the UK. For my Kefir I use #5 PP (Polypropylene) measuring jugs which make excellent containers for the job. I do use PETE #1 bottles for transporting some of my KT and sending out my KT starters. Again, these PETE bottles are very reliable and, as far as I am concerned, pose no problems. I have fullest confidence in these PETE, HDOE and PP containers, although of course glass is the ultimate happiness ;-) > Many times we have all discussed the dangers of brewing in ANY plastic. Yes, I believe that caution needs to be taken with SOME plastics, but I feel that the above mentioned 3 plastics stand up to brewing and transporting acidic liquids very well. Of course, everyone has to come to a satisfying conviction themselves as to what they are happy to use. > My hatred of plastic is a long story which I do not wish to reveal. That is a shame! Guest guest
Hi I don't thing you will ever get a consensus on brewing in plastic. So see no problem and claim it is safe. Rossin has done extensive testing of Kombucha and at kombucha tea/files/Kombucha%20Threads/\ Kombucha%20Threads/ under Plastics the he states, " Well, we've looked at Kombucha in pop bottles, Kombucha in Tupperware, Kombucha in " food grade plastic fermenting containers, and Kombucha in plastic in general. So far, it's a personal choice, glass or plastic does not effect the ferment, and does not provide petrochemicals in solution. That's both ferment and storage. " V is concerned and states " The issue with plastics is not so much petrochemicals, but estrogen mimickers. I doubt very much that is what Roussin looked for, and when I have asked him to clarify, I have heard no word. I do not think these statements should be taken as assurance that plastics are safe. " To learn more about estrogen mimickers see http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/hormones/index.html I personally have no hang ups using plastic for brewing. I purchased a 6.5 gallon bucket from my local beer/wine brewing store. I no longer use it. Tended to over produce and when I cut back the tea amount wasn't happy with the flavor. I have 8 of the 2.5 gallon water crocks that I use each dedicated to a different tea/tea combination. This works best for my brewing habits. There is NO assurance that even drinking water out of plastic is not bad for me much less brewing a highly acidic drink in plastic. I know it may sound like a stretch but in Louisiana friends are dying of cancer who live near a plastics plant. PVC is totally poisonous and nothing is being done to clean it up. People are just throwing it away, burning it (and breathing poisonous fumes) and it should be disposed of the same way they dispose of asbestos. Plastic IS plastic...TO ME. A rose by any other name and all that. The wonderful FDA tells us that something is safe one day then when enough people die they turn around and say it isn't. You are on your own really so I have to choose the safest route for me. Another kind lady (who feels as I do about plastic) is sending me some starters of kt, kefir and skg so I can begin again with safe cultures. I just wondered how you people felt about it. Thanks for the replies, Brit
Guest guest
om wrote: > Many times we have all discussed the dangers of brewing in ANY plastic. There are SOME plastics which are dangerous ANY time, and ANY plastic may be dangerous SOME of the time, but you can't say that ANY plastic is dangerous ALL of the time! ;-) Also I would point out that /many/ people brew Kombucha in " Sun Tea jars " , which have a plastic tap. I believe the tap is made from high density polyethylene. If there were any danger in this, many people on this list should be suffering the consequences... Seriously, I know of no evidence nor any logical reason why high density polyethylene (HDPE, recycling code 2) would be dangerous for brewing Kombucha... and aside from the sun tea jar taps, I've just gone all the way and brewed a batch entirely in plastic. I've long wanted to brew larger batches than the 2 gallon glass jugs I have available, so finally I bought a 20 liter (5 gallon) HDPE milk jug (used by dairy farmers) and drilled a hole and installed a tap (also made from HDPE) in it. The batch I just made in this has been ready for a few days now and it tastes great with not even the faintest hint of " plastic taste " . I am not a big fan of plastics... I like natural materials, especially ones that can be returned to nature in less than a few thousand years. Our civilization today uses far too much plastic, and often uses plastics under circumstances where it definitely should not be used. Also some plastics, although safe in use, are environmental or health disasters in their fabrication and disposal. But plastics are also invaluable, and so long as the right plastic is used in a given context, they can be both safer and more environmentally sound than other materials. In terms of health safety, polyethylene has to be considered extremely safe. Chemically it consists of only Carbon and Hydrogen in a very simple chain molecule. It is extremely stable against acids and completely insoluble except at high heat. Its only constituent, ethylene, is a common plant hormone, so you're ingesting trace amounts every time you eat fruits or veggies. So I am comfortable that there is no risk from brewing Kombucha in a HDPE container. I did go to some lengths to clean it thoroughly beforehand, washing it several times alternately with vinegar and warm soapy water to make sure any chemical residues from the factory were gone. Another plastic that should be safe is polypropylene (recycling code 5). All the rest of the consumer plastics are probably NOT suitable, for various reasons. :j

I doubt These may be a problem with PETE (recycling code 1), but not other plastics as far as I know. Different plastics are very different chemically... polyethelene for example is such a simple molecule, there is no way you can some complex hormone out of it. :j

Guest guest
I agree. I only use glass. And I think you'll find several will agree with you here that plastic isn't an appropriate container for an acidic brew like kombucha. I try to use as little plastic in my kitchen as I can, period. Guest guest
My daughter had and still has sometimes chronic constipation. She was on Lactulose (prescription) but another doc said mineral oil is just as good. 5 ml each at breakfast, lunch and supper (that is maximum dose when plugged up) for the week and then laxative on the weekend. Dulcolax. One Friday night, one Saturday night. Poo usually came out during the night. Was not enjoyable. (dose for an 8 yr old) You could maybe just start lubricating with the mineral oil first. <andyho@...> wrote: Hi everyone! I just had some quick questions for y'all.. My cousin has been expressing some concerns about her daughter who is 2, soon to be 3 in september. Lately she keeps going through bouts of constipation. At first the ped. had her use suppositories and watered down juice. Which she was LESS than happy about the suppositories. Her dd also had an xray done to make sure there wasn't any blockage, which there was some but it passed. However after the first constipation about 5 months ago, she ended up getting e.coli and was on antibiotics. My cousin then was worried because her dd didn't seem to be catching onto letters and colors like she was! Then 2 months ago, she went on antibiotics again for a mild ear infection. And now they're back to having constipation! The ped. now says that they might have to try miralax. Which my cousin really doesn't want to use since the ped. said that once miralax gets started it's hard for kids to come off of it. Her dd is also a picky eater and does not like fruits and veggies much, which results in a more carb/starch/protein based diet no matter how hard she tries to get her to eat them. I don't want to freak her out by any means, but we both know that in our family there are many different problems ranging from thyroid(aunt & cousin) to autism(cousin) to gastrointestinal problems(aunt), and her cousin from her mother's side also has cystic fibrosis. We talk on a daily basis so she knows the problems I have been going through with my daughter's epilepsy. She's just worried now that something is going to happen with her daughter and she isn't sure how to " catch " it in advance. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!! Guest guest
Rhonda, Perhaps you might want to also inquire about your symptoms at the Vitamin C foundation where the owner or someone is always there to answer questions. Also, someone at the Vitamin C foundation has been having ongoing discussions about his symptoms. He is younger than you with a stent. http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/forum/viewtopic.php? t=3986 & postdays=0 & postorder=asc & start=0 you probably need to change the supplements that you are taking and follow this protocol instead. http://www.thecureforheartdisease.com/protocol.htm phine > > I'm just a little concerned as to what's going on inside of me and thought I > would get your opinions. Guest guest
Are you still taking the Plavix, aspirin and Vitamin C? Polycosanol never worked at all for me and as far as I know CoQ10 will not lower cholesterol, its just a good thing to take to strengthen your heart and protect your muscles. That was a lot of Vitamin C….I wish I could take 5 grams, the most my system will tolerate is 2 grams. Noreen Concerned I'm just a little concerned as to what's going on inside of me and thought I would get your opinions. As for a little history: On Oct. 9, 2006 at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease and had 2 stents put in my heart. I was put on Plavix, Crestor, aspirin and Diltiazem. I took myself off the Crestor because of all the side effects and eventually went off of the Diltiazem because I was no longer having the chest pains and was taking the following supplements: Green Qi (kinda like green tea)-From Neways Provex CV (grape seed extract)--From Melaleuca Phytomega -From Melaleuca Vitamin C 5000mg daily Plavix 75mg Aspirin 81mg The Melaleuca products were becoming too expensive and I couldn't afford them, and I had been reading how different ones on this group were taking Policosanol and Co Q10, so I stopped the Melaleuca products and started taking these other 2 products. I've been taking them for probably 2 weeks and in the past couple of days my chest pains have started back up. They are not constant, just occassional sharp stabbing pains that leave my left arm feeling heavy. The pain also goes up into my neck on the left side. I have also been experiencing a lot of body aches as though I were taking cholesterol drugs or like I have the flu and have been having headaches and feeling extremely tired all the time to the point that I HAVE to lay down in the afternoon. As of last night I went back on the Diltiazem because that's what they put me on for chest pains due to angina. I have not yet taken a nitro because the pain does not last a long time and it's not a severe pain. I also got my test results back last week and they told me that my cholesterol was up. Total was 244. In my opinion, I don't think that's high. Is it possible that the Melaleuca products were really working for me? Or will it take time for the Policosanol and Co Q10 to kick in? I don't want to have to go to the hospital or Dr. unless I just know that I absolutely have too. I'm not having the chest pressure like I did when I was rushed to the ER in Oct. Guest guest
Rhonda! After reading the description of your aches, pains, flu-like symptoms....I would consult a cardiologist. Women tend to have different symptoms for heart problems and flu-like symptoms tend to be one of 'em. If you have NOT YET had a heart attack, don't mess around and have one and have to live with heart tissue damage the rest of your life. I speak from personal experience. Women also tend to have more problems with stents failing for one reason or another, than men. As far as your cholestrol being a 244 and not high???? Not sure where you got your information on that. It is high. You have any idea what your ratio might be. To determine your ratio, I believe you divide your total reading (in your case 244) by your HDL figure. It should be at 3.5 OR LOWER. You might ask your doctor about a nitro patch. You only wear it for 12-hours and then discard it and go without for 12hrs. Just my take on your situation....be careful ! Guest guest
My cholesterol has always been over 200. It ranges anywhere from 223 to 240. I don't worry about it and every time my doctor asks if I want to try a statin, I tell her, " no thank-you. " From what I have been reading, high cholesterol actually helps you live longer and is only one of 240 risk factors for heart disease.I am more concerned about my homocysteine levels and my c-reactive protein levels both of which are important markers for heart disease. I keep my numbers low for both by my daily intake of Vitamin C. My daily tolerence level seems to be about 6 to 10 grams at the current time. I don't think Rhonda has to worry about her cholesterol numbers. phine > > Rhonda! > > After reading the description of your aches, pains, flu-like symptoms....I would consult a cardiologist. Guest guest
, Thanks for your concern, but so far, I am ok and as far as I know, I have not had a heart attack. I've been canning and working in the garden, taking care of the cattle, my family and aging parents and I'm still kickin!...LOL I think my problems are supplement related. It's just finding the right thing that works for me. It looks like I'm going to have to go back to what I was doing and use the Melaleuca Provex. After I quit taking that, and tried different supplements, that is when the chest pains and flu like symptoms started in. My biggest concern right now is my gut. It is really irritated right now, to the point where I look like I'm 5 months pregnant. I'm just assuming that something is irritating my colon since I do have a sensitive colon. (IBS-C) There is no way I can use the nitro patch. That's what they put me on in the hospital, and the headaches were worse than the chest pains. When they came in to change it the next day, I refused it and told them I would not wear it. I'm hoping to find the middle of the road somewhere along the line with my health and find something that works for me. It's just trial and error right now. At the age of 43 and 2 stents, I'm way too young to be having these problems, especially when I'm trying to take care of my parents at the same time. Guest guest
I would take the following: PROFIBE (start with 1/2 scoop a day and slowly build up to 2 scoops a day) Fish Oil (max dose directed on bottle) Vit C 500 mg a day. 5000 is too much Vit E (Natural, mixed tocopherols) 200IU a day Building a website is a piece of cake. Guest guest
Rhonda, This is the other . I wanted to mention that I was in the same situation as you with intestinal/digestion problems over the past several years. Several years ago I was in the hospital for 10 days - with possible pancreatitis. During that stay my digestive system was flushed 2 or 3 times. By the time I was released from the hospital I felt worse than when I went in with my bp, temp and pulse on the high side I was still sent home under protest. There were few recommendations on what to do except contact the surgeon and make an appointment. One of my buddies suggested taking one of the probiotic products. I did but apparently my system was slow to get back to normal. During the past year I started eating two different yogurts each with probiotic formulas. One is Breyers and the other is "Woodstock" (Vermont) yogurt made from waterbuffalo milk. It's expensive ~ $1.75 for a small container but it has done wonders for my digestive system. Try it one each day for one or two weeks and see what happens. The Water Buffalo yogurt is unlike any other and it comes in different natural flavors. Be well, , , , Concerned I'm just a little concerned as to what's going on inside of me and thought I would get your opinions. Guest guest
Greetings; It has been well established by animal studies involving our nearest cousins and other animals that the appropriate dosage of Vit C is 1000mg per 100 lbs of body weight per day. Get 1000 mg caps and spread the amount throughout the day in three or four doses. The 1000 mg caps are also cheaper per mg than the smaller dosages. Get pure and natural Vit E products containing only the d-alpha form. The dl-alpha form is atificial/manufactured. Recent studies have found that it is not utilized by the body and might even be harmful. Good Luck! Guest guest
Well I think I've narrowed down my gut problems, but I'm still not real sure. Shortly after having my stents put in, back in Oct. the Dr. took me off of Toporol and put me on Diltiazem for Angina. Shortly after going on it, my colon began having these same symptoms. (I had just forgotten about it) It got so bad that my Dr. sent me in for a colonoscopy 3 months later when it did not get any better, and found out that I have a Tortous colon, which means that my colon has more twists and turns than a normal colon does and I am required to take stool softeners everyday to keep my bowels soft so that they can make it through the additional passages. Shortly thereafter, I stopped taking the Diltiazem because my chest pains had gotten better and I was no longer having them. A couple of weeks ago the chest pains started back up again which was also the same time I had stopped the Provex CV from Melaleuca and started the vitamin C, Policosanol and CoQ10. So I began taking the Diltiazem again and bingo! the colon problems started in again. So NOW I'm thinking it is the Diltiazem and NOT the vitamin C. I have also started having another embarrassing problem which is an extremely raw rectum as though I've been having loose stools when I have not. It's just blistered all the way around the outside. (sorry to be so graphic) It looks like I have poison ivy without the itch. So I don't know what that's all about. I am going back on the Provex CV since I do know that it did help. (I'm not a Distributor, so I'm not trying to sell it.) I am also going to stay on the vitamin C and possibly add the Lysine as well and see how I do. Does anybody else have any other recommendations?
