Guest guest
Hi Meagan, I was home sick for one week and now I am in the hospital for a week sick with acute bronchitis. First time hospitlaized like this sincee I was 3 with pnemonia ad they dianosed me as asthmatic. I started medral then they upped it to 40, then 60 when they increased to 80 they asdvised if I don't improve or if I stay the same go to the hospital. All the pred advise came fom my expert allergist but on President's day I had to go to the GP he wanted to give me the same shot. I too have to be so careful with the taper and I advised him I didn't feel comfortable with that and Ikd rather be able to pinpoint metered doses. When I followed up with my allergist - told her how I resisted and she said I made the right choice and that a. lot of old school dr.s or allergists will give these out. I am now on 140mg of solu medral now in hospital. My husband and I read that it does not cause the bloating or moon face so much. But I have had had a total of 7 hours asleep in my last 5 insomniac nightsb @ the hospital. Meagan my eyes r blurry and I don't know if I did okay typing this. What state are you in ? So too answer question stay away from the shot. Best to u and your recovery! I heard from someone (not a doctor, a patient friend of mine) that injected Prednisone (I guess she meant methylprednisolone b/c I know this isn't true for SoluMedrol) causes fewer side effects than oral Prednisone. I've only ever had it injected once, and I was pretty miserable at the time, so I don't really remember. I am on oral prednisone (for 3-4wks) right now for an acute bronchitis, and my pulmo knows I hate prednisone so I think he would've mentioned the injectable solution if it was worth trying. My pulmo did say that we had to taper slowly this time due to my history with pred. I know this question isn't strictly related to Xolair but I figured that if anyone would know the answer, it would be a bunch of current/former evil candy takers, so thank you. Guest guest
Hi, the side effects of all steroids, IV, IM or by mouth are all the same. It may just feel different due to the different times of onset of drug action. This assumes you are getting equivalent doses as well. Guest guest
Thank you /Doug, I thought that it was weird that injectable steroids with fewer side-effects was mentioned as an option -- why then would we be suffering through oral dosages? Laurie to answer your question, I am doing OK thank you, this Nor'ester happened to fall right when I needed it to, and I have no classes today and probably tomorrow too! I have a lot of chest pain but my pulmo did all sorts of 'tapping' on my back on Tuesday night and then decided it's muscle pain from coughing, so aside from the lovely affects of pred I'm doing a little better! I've never heard of someone being admitted for acute bronchitis, did it switch to pneumonia or are you just really complicated? IV steroids made me want to climb the walls of the hospital after 1 dose (125mg), so I can only imagine how you must be feeling! Feel better soon! Guest guest
Well I have been on the love/hate drug for over a year! For the longest time I didn't realize it was the predisone making me crazy...I thought everyone in the world became DUMB! My dr knows how much I hate it and I am sure he would have said something about injectable if that was the case.
