Guest guest
Hi, I've never heard of that before. Could you get a more clinical description (what does he inject, how much, etc)so I could give it to an ENT in my area. Where are you? The time stamp on your posting puts you out of the U.S. right? So, how do you feel between surgeries using these injections? You said you have a similar regimen to most of us, is your asthma and nasal congestion better than before you discovered this therapy? tonidkgest <dgest@...> wrote: After watching the posts for awhile, I find that my regimen is similar to most of you. The one possibly unique treatment (I haven't heard anyone talk about it) is that my ENT lengthens the time between my surgeries by giving me injections of steroids directly in all the reachable polyps.Every 3 or 4 months he numbs me up a bit, does a visual inspection (sometimes with the long viewing probe) and then injects any polyps that have begun to appear. This seems to shrink them up very nicely. Obviously he can't get to all the sinuses and polyps but it still helps.Anyone else doing this? If not, I would sure recommend asking about it. Guest guest
, Over the span of 30+ years, I've had about a dozen or so steroids shots to joints. Many shots to my knees, shoulders and SI joints. Some of the shots gave little pain at the time of the injections. These shots were not given in the joint itself, but to the area of bursa, muscle and tendons around the joint. The ones that were given deep in the joint and directed in several areas of the joint (by orthopaedic doctors/not my rheumy) hurt a little more, but were definitely more successful. I thoroughly believe that if someone, who knows their anatomy well, gives the shot...it will be more effective. There usually is little pain after the shot....at least this has been my experience....as most doctors add lidocain (a numbing substance in the shot) besides the steroid. I've had several shots to my left knee (which was giving me trouble for 1 1/2 years, pain, weakness and limping)) which did nothing to help until I had surgery to that knee. Several years later, my right knee started giving me trouble (neuropathy, pain, numbness to leg and foot) and a " huge " steroid shot to the joint did the trick. I've been pain free in that knee for over a year now. At the same time I had the steroid shot to my knee, the orthopaedic doctor gave me two huge shots to my SI joints, deep in the joints....the initial shot was very painful, but a few seconds after he withdrew, it was fine. It was well worth the shot pain....as the sciatica pain I was having was really terrible. Within days I had no sciatica pain! Since that shot....I only have occasional flare ups that haven't lasted too long. As to the cost, I don't know, but it shouldn't be that expensive. It is well worth the initial shot pain and cost to have a chance to be pain free. Luck to you. Connie

Guest guest
Hi , I agree with everything Connie said about steriod shots. I've had lots of them, too, from the soles of my feet up through my shoulders. Most of mine have been in my hips. Sometimes you get a bit of redness and heat in the injection area. If you do, it's a good idea to ice it for a bit. Don't get in a hot tub for a couple of days. There isn't a lot of discomfort after the injection, in my experience. Sometimes the shots themselves are a bit painful, sometimes they are no worse than a flu shot--certainly they are nothing like the Synvisc or Hyalagan shots--my personal worst. The location has something to do with it, but I think the skill of the doctor does, too. If it's really going to work, it works immediately, in my experience--as Connie mentioned, the knowledge of anatomy in hitting the right spot is key. Supposedly it takes about 3 days to get maximum relief. How long it lasts just depends on what's going on with the area. I 've had them that seemed to fix the problem for as much as a year, and others--mainly to a really screwed-up knee--that just didn't work at all. I'm not sure about the cost, but I think it is reasonable compared to a lot of stuff. I don't think there are any side effects--it's more that you can only get a limited number to an area within a certain amount of time--I don't know what the limit is. I hope it works for you. Ankle pain is miserable. I'm having pain from the sciatic nerve in my right ankle when I lie down--weird. Good luck-- Pat --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru. Guest guest
I don't do well with decadron shots AT ALL! I break out all over with steroid acne and become so hyper, negative and just plain mean that I want to lock myself in my room and not come out till it wears off. UGH! NOT anymore! Never! Thanks to xolair I NEVER have to take steroid shots again! Doug Group founder
