Guest guest
Ron, good luck with the new program, I sure hope it works for you. I too have had many side effects from steroids. OP, and diabetes. I am no longer on steroids but if I have to be an inpatient they give me the IV ones and it sends the sugar thru the roof and then I have to have insulin.............a bitter sweet thing. May today be twice as good as yesterday and half as good as tomorrow. Jan From: cowtrail@... You can imagine the adverse reactions and long term consequences. I have tried to wean down several times but it seems if I go below 20 mg I can't breath. We are trying a different method this time. Once a week for a month I will take 10 mg of Prednisone instead of the 20 mg. The second month I will take 10 mg twice a week for a month. The third month I will take 10 mg 3 times a week for a month, etc. I am on my second week of the first month, I'm hoping this method might be more successful. 's Law, along came the rain, harder to breath, but I'm going to try to stick it out, the other " methods " have not worked. Ron
Guest guest
I also have " Prednisone Induced Diabetes " and have to take insulin several times a day for it. It is a little more difficult, because as you know the Prednisone whacks your Blood Sugars big time. Guest guest
This is just a question: Do you use a nebulizer all the time, or do you use it when you have difficulty breathing? I was on prednisone for almost five years and when the doctor prescribed one of the steroid inhalers, he weaned me off of pred. and it worked until I had the first respiratory infection. But at least after that I only had to take pred in burst, not for a long period of time.  My story is that I had to go on pred this past Christmas...at least, right before Christmas. The mountain cedar has been very high as well as the mold. A year and a half ago, my xolair doc reduced my xolair to 150 every six weeks, instead of every 4 weeks. I had been on xolair about 2 years. However, I saw the xolair doc (he just happened to walk by the room I was in, and came in to talk to me) and when I told him I had to take pred., he increased the xolair right then back to every four weeks. Hope this helps for me. I have had sinusitus and asthma during this mc season. Haven't had to add the neb yet.  Just curious what other meds you are taking. I'm just telling my story, by the way. Your doc is the one who can best help you.  Hope this helps a little.  Adah. Guest guest
I use a Nebulizor 3-4 times a day, Duo-Neb,. A rescue inhaler, Combivent every 3-4 hours, and flovent. I also take singular, Theophyline, Biaxin, and Xolair. Plus, now my Diabetes medications and high blood pressure medications. Prednisone being the worst of all of them and I would count my blessings if I could get down to 10 mg a day, or off completely.. I have not been hospitalized for several years since I started Xolair, this is a good thing, pneumonia can be hazardous to you health, LOL. Guest guest
Not being in the hospital is a good thing! I would hope that you will be able to get down to 10 mg a day. Pred. really does play havoc with our bodies in so many other ways. But breathing is a good thing, too!  Best wishes..... > > From: <cowtrailmac (DOT) com> > Subject: [ ] Lowering Prednisone dose > > Date: Sunday, January 24, 2010, 3:00 PM > > > > Although Xolair has improved my quality of life greatly, 375 mg every 2 weeks-maximum dose, I have been on 20 mg (not counting the temporary increases for various problems) of Prednisone daily for over 6 years, not much longer than I've been on Xolair.
