UPDATED: 2:16 PM EDT July 15, 2004

WASHINGTON -- Several store brands of granola bars and muesli cereals are being recalled because they might have raw almonds that are contaminated by salmonella -- which can be deadly.

This is part of a series of recalls since mid-May involving millions of raw almonds grown by Paramount Farms of California.

The latest items under scrutiny are made by Grist Mill Co. of Lakeville, Minn.

The firm is recalling batches of its Fruit and Trail Mix Granola Bars and Muesli Cereals that might contain the affected raw almonds.

Those products are sold under a variety of store-brand names around the country.

The recalled granola bars come in 7.4-ounce boxes with expiration dates between June 6, 2004, and Jan. 20, 2005.

They were sold under the following stores' brand names: Acme, Albertson's, BiLo, Food Club, Food Lion, Fred Meyer, Giant, Giant Eagle, Great Value, Hill Country Fare, Hyvee, Jewel, Kroger, Lynn, Meijer, Millville, Our Family, Price Chopper, Ralph's, Roundy, Stater Brothers, Stop & Shop, Sunny Select, Tops, Weis and Winn Dixie.

The recalled muesli cereals come in a 15.3-ounce box with expiration dates between Sept. 10, 2004, and Dec. 10, 2004.

They were sold under the following stores' brand names: Acme, Albertson's, Archer Farm, Best Choice, Central Market, Flavorite, Fred Meyer, Teeter, Hyvee, Jewel, Kroger, Ralph's, Safeway Select Healthy Advantage, Shaw's and Shop & Save.

People are urged to return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a refund or call Grist Mill at (800) 233-7022.
