Guest guest
The FDA has released a statement that it is reviewing Xolair for possible association with heart-related issues. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/2009/ucm172399.htm Until we have further information, my suggestion for folks who are concerned about possible heart-disease related to Xolair is to ask their physician who prescribed Xolair to contact both the manufacturer and National Jewish Hospital. National Jewish has been one of the leading institutions researching Xolair from the get go, and they have a physician consultation program. Candidates for Xolair who have a history of heart disease may want to consult a cardiologist before starting. That said, remember this: Lack of oxygen causes a strain on the heart. A lot of asthmatic patients experience short-term hypertension during asthma episodes because lack of oxygen requires the heart to work harder to get what oxygen that is coming in through the blood stream. My own doctors have been very clear that I need to take Xolair in order to lower the strain on the rest of my system and drastically reduce how much prednisone I need because that drug is killing me slowly. I want my life back as I have two amazing kids and i want to be myself again. I am wondering if anyone has been tested for H.Pylori or any other parasites, as it can increase IgE. > > Thanks so much > Sheila >
Guest guest
I'm with Addy on this one. Nothing in your body can function well without proper oxygen. I think breathing well is the best thing you can do for yourself. I also don't think the warnings are anything more than a CYA move. Maybe time will prove me wrong, but I would bet that all the warnings and rules will relax as time goes by. Everyone's just nervous because it's new. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the posts so far. My asthma is not terrible, but the hives are unbearable. I wake up with them on my face, eyes, all over and they are not under control. My doctor believes lowering the IgE will put everything back to a calmer state, including asthma. Like I said, I dont want to creat another issue down the road. I agree about the warnings being because it is new. More info would be great. My doctor will probably not contact Novartis or the Hospital because he is extremely busy and there is a shortage of physicians in our area. But I wonder if I can contact them directly myself and get some info. Do you think that is possible? S

I was in the same boat as you - asthma well controlled, hives outta control. 5 years now on Xolair and no hives. What a godsend.
