A point in fact you may want to know about this nation, the US was the primary designer of the Nurembourg, but the US did NOT sign it. It makes me think of what I was told as a kid, " do what you're told, not what you want " ; I wish I could firmly convey that onto the higher ups at today's US military!!! Yes, I have both. My understanding of spondylolisthesis, however, is that it is a mechanical condition that comes and goes, not a disease process. It's more like a sprained ankle--you're disk is out of place but can slip back or be put back through a variety of means, including stretching exercises. Unlike ankylosing spondylitis, you don't necessarily have spondylolisthesis forever. But, the inflammation, pain and posture problems from ankylosing spondylitis can exacerbate the other condition, making it hard to keep that disk in place. M. Guest guest
I'm 59, . I think the ages are a full range from young to not so young. You have the right to ask for a different doc but sometimes when you ask, they try to give you a hard time. I think they see it as a personal insult. Sometimes they need to be insulted. My first cardiologist completely misdiagnosed me and I nearly died. I got a new cardiologist who recognized all the symptoms and put me on the road to recovery. Guest guest
Hi - I'm 24. I've switched doctors 4 times - 2 of which I wanted to do, and the last 2 were because of insurance changes and the doctor leaving. Each time I switched I got better care, so I'm a strong advocate of 'second' opinions etc. If you feel that you need to change, by all means do it - could be for the best. Good luck! >From: " valleycommunications2004 " <valleycommunications2004@...> >Reply- > >Subject: just wondering.... >Date: Sun, 29 Jun 2003 01:18:30 -0000 > >hi guys it me .... i was just wondering what are the age group >of the majority of the members here? just curious..... plus is >there a problem if i told my doctor who i have been seing for 5 >years now that i would like to try someone else? > > omar,22,ny > _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. I have changed doctor 3 times and going on my 4th. i am very happy eps specialist whom i had for 12 years except for 2 because of insurance reasons. I think afterall he is the most important guy because of the ICD. Now again because of the insurance again i have to find a new eps guy so i am petrified as well. but i agree with jennifer everytime i changed doctors i have got a better care. It is always better to get a second oppinion if you have any doubts. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Sara Out of about 6 epidurals I had over 2 years, only one gave me relief, the rest hurt more than made me feel better. This month I had an L5 block as well as S1-3 block and you know what- I have had relief!!! So it maybe that the epidural is not what you need. You need to tell the MD what you are experiencing so that they know. It maybe they need to try a block instead. Sorry your having to go through this, I swear its just trial and error. Hang in there and keep trying though. RN Just Wondering.... I am sure someone has had and Epidural Injection. I had one last Wednesday in the Lumbar part of of my spine. When does one start feeling relief of any kind? And is it supposed to make the area, the spinal area, that it was injected into hurt worse than it did before? Oh My Goodness! I don't even know how to tell my Dr that it is more painful than it was before. Is there anything I can do to lessen it? Thanks! Guest guest
Dont be scared, tell him its worse and ask for something- they usually dont want to give you percocet off the bat, so ask for Vicodin. Have you had that? If so and it didnt work tell him and ask for low dose percocet, tell him you need some pain relief. Describe your pain vividly for him. It that lyrica isnt working, again I do recomment cymbalta -30 mg is the lowest dose, ask if you can try that, once a day- I take it in the morning and it does help with the way the brain processes pain, increases the serotonin. Im sure he will be happy to write that script for you, and ask for vicodin. I had to work up - first it was Darvocet which did nothing, ultram which didnt help, than vicodin which didnt help me either, and then low dose percocet which finally was helpful. Luckily that is enough for me, but some people need to go more- as others on the group will tell you, something longer acting. Dont worry about what your MD thinks, your the one in pain. Also you may want to keep a pain journal so when you see him you can show him and he knows you are serious (not that your are not now, but it will justify your case.) RN Just Wondering... . Guest guest
I have had vicodin, it doesn't do anything but make me spacey and really hyper! I never thought about keeping a pain journal, maybe that is something I will start doing. Sometimes it is really hard to explain to the dr exactly what is going on. I am not sure what they can do right now, I have a discogram coming up on the 4th and I know I am not supposed to take a lot of things if anything. Guest guest
Okay so you have had Vicodin and it didnt do anything for you, well than ask for percocet- ask if you can start with the lowest dose and see how that works for you. Also use ice packs to the area that hurts, that is very helpful. Im afraid I dont know about the discogram, I was supposed to have one and it was put off as the MD is going to do radiofrequency to my L5-S3 since I have been doing well with the block. But others on this group have had it, sounds like the pain doesnt last too long after you have it, maybe a few days of discomfort. Epidural is probably worse... Just Wondering... . Guest guest
I am about to have my 3rd discogram in 8 years - you can actually take your pain meds like you normally do, but I wouldn't take them right before the procedure - the doc relies on your answers and if you don't feel some of the pain, it skews the test. I'm not gonna lie - discograms are not fun. But it's temporary and very helpful to your doctor. Of course, pain is subjective, but I would say it's not any more painful than your worst pain. I don't know if that makes you feel better or worse! : ) I understand how you feel about worrying that the doc thinks you are a drug seeker. But they know what to look for in terms of spotting addicts, and just because you say you are in pain and are in more pain since your shot, doesn't mean he will think anything. I would not ask for specific drugs though - that may be a red flag to some docs. I would do like someone suggested and do a pain diary and try to describe your pain as best you can - is it shooting, sharp, dull, aching, constant, etc... that will help the doc figure out what to do next. I have had probably 30 injections from blocks to facet blocks to steroid injections and only one gave me relief - the very first one. What kind of doc are you seeing - a pain management doc? Guest guest
I know what you mean Sara, I'm afraid to ask me PM for stronger pain relief for the same reasons. He has me on fairly strong meds right now, and keeps referring to respiratory suppression, (not sure if I'm saying that right). I do understand the concern though, it really scares me with the combination I am taking, he has cut me back on the muscle relaxers also. I just try to keep in mind that this is something I am going to have to accept in my life and the sooner I do accept the better I will be, just keep trying to work with them in reassuring you doctor that you are not a seeker in drug enjoyment, but a seeker in pain relief. Hopes & wishes you find the way to get the relief you need.  Bama,  The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his. Guest guest
Adah, You are correct, it does not matter where you live for mold. Mold is everywhere, most of the time. The biggest indicator in that environmental mold does not significantly affect allergies/asthma, is that when mold counts are the highest, in the summer, hospital ED visits, admission rates and asthma exacerbation rates are the lowest. Denver is great, I used to live there and work at the #1 asthma center, National Jewish, as a clinical pharmacist/pharmacologist.
