Hello to all members

I am to go into the hospital this Wednesday for a kidney removal (cancer).

I will be starting Xolair treatments in January 2011.

Do you think this will be too soon after surgery?

What side effects can I expect?

I am so glad that this group is available.

Thank you in advance for all your support.

Hope your surgery goes well.

Regarding Xolair - I was on it for about 6 months and at first I felt that it

was helping me but at the same time I started getting extreme fatique and pain

all over my body. It was an effort to get out of bed some days.

Immediately after getting the injection I would feel a little weird. Don't know

how to explain it - little short of breath perhaps but nothing major. Also a bit

anxious. The last time I had it I got very anxious and started feeling not quite

right - for about 15 minutes.

The doctor decided to take me off of it as he felt I was having some type of

reaction to it.

The achiness is gone. I feel like my old self once again. I'm just going to

stick with my asthma meds and try to be diligent with my allergy shots.

I am a life long asthmatic and at times it is severe but I've realized I need to

be more proactive when I feel myself getting sick.

Xolair helps for many people but I have to admit I'm worried about the side

effects of the drug.

Take care,

Patty

Bruce, good luck with the surgery, hope they get everything, let us know. I

think I would wait til Feb. for the xolair, but that is my opinion.

I have noticed my allergies worse this last summer but not sure if it is from

the shots or just the area I live in. I also have been very tired all the time.

I also have fibromyalgia and that makes you tired but I have noticed a noticable

difference.

On another note due to me having bronchitis I have missed over 3 weeks of shots,

I feel better!! I am not sure if it is a mind thing or what. I have to call

tomorrow and make sure they got my serum in, if I start feeling worse then I

guess I will know it is from the shots and may just quit. I don't want to open

up a can of worms but I wonder if maybe we are being used as subjects and some

of us get the real stuff and some something else. Just my wondering. Jan

May today be twice as good as yesterday and half as good as tomorrow. Jan

That was something I noticed on Xolair ... the body pain. I had it before Xolair

but it seemed like it was more present on Xolair. I felt so bad most of time

(aches and pains and frequent upper respiratory infections). I envied those

people who seemed to miraculously spring to life because although the breathing

improved by maybe 50% and ultimately the sinus headaches improved by 80%, I felt

so beat down. Thankfully, I never noticed any breathing problems that I could

attribute to Xolair, though, so I don't think I was in any way having any sort

of anaphylaxsis. If I missed a shot by a day or so I would get a sort've odd

feeling very briefly of everything being very " removed " and " distant " from me.

But, no swelling or difficulty with breathing, thankfully.

Hi Janice,

Rest assured, we are all getting " the real " stuff. Unless you are registered in

a randomized, placebo-controlled trial, for which you signed informed consent to

participate, you cannot be a guinea pig for anyone and you are not getting a

placebo or " something else " . It is simply illegal and unethical for anything

remotely like this to occur. Everyone has different reactions to medications for

different reasons. It is possible that you do not tolerate xolair and would be

better off without it. Best to discuss this personal decision with your treating

MD.

Glad to hear Xolair is working for you Peggy. I've been taking it for around

five years with no problems other than taking the time to go to the doctor's

office every two weeks.

A side benefit, that I really think is due to Xolair, is that I've only been

sick twice in five years, once was really minor and the second time was the H1N1

flu which only lasted a day or so. Prior to Xolair I was sick with all kinds of

respiratory problems, besides asthma, four or five times a year, usually making

me miserable for a week or two. And those sicknesses had been going on for so

many many years.

I still take other meds, like Advair, Spiriva, Uniphyl and Claritin but my

prednisone pills are rotting on the shelf. I take a couple puffs of albuterol

once or twice a week, but could really do without.

I'm glad to hear you've experienced improvement in your immune system problems,

as I feel I have.

I'm not proposing that Xolair is some kind of general wonder drug, but I am of

the belief that it somehow has strengthened my immune system well beyond the

targeted asthma.
