If it was me I would go get retested. You may have the antibodies but not the active virus. You could have had an acute case of it.

I think I might be starting treatment soon. Had hep c since 1993 with no problem...until now. emzyme levels high, and my rna quant is close to 3 mill?? (that doesn't sound good to me!) been reading some of your messages, and I gotta say I'm scared and nervous as hell! I am a stone mason, and body builder, and am afraid I won't be neither for long, if interferon as as bad as I hear. like I said I'm scared, but I'm glad this site is here.

I would get it checked again by another lab, just to be on the safe side.

I was told last May that I had hep c from another lab:: After that I went to the VA HOSP & after numerous blood tests they

stated I did not have it: Never was tested before although was operated on at the VA in the 70's and a lot of new blood pumped into me :: But always have been on Diets (my own eat by color) & since the 1970's have not excersized: I am lucky if I walk::: & not overweight drink soy milk & take vitamins:

What I am asking if I should go to another Hospital or another lab for more tests????

If I had the option I would be retested by another lab if I could afford it. The test that I would request would be a Hepatimax test. It measures the amount of active Hep C virus in your system. The test is rather expensive. The last bill that my insurance company paid was for $442. I would also get copies of each of the lab results and compare them to see if the same tests were done and make sure apples were being compared to apples.

Keep us posted on how everything goes.

Best of luck,

Hi Connie,

I'm sorry you've gone through all this and are not convinced of the

results. I can't help but wonder if the results were not explained

to you adequately. Before going to yet another doctor I would tell

your VA doctor about your confusion. When I was first " diagnosed " it

was by a nurse screening me for HepC antibodies in my blood, a simple

test that caused me to be denied life insurance and go visit my

general practioner (GP). She explained it could be a false positive

and proceeded to run a bunch of more detailed confirming tests. They

came out positive also and then I was referred to a specialist. So

my point is, my GP explained how the first test could be wrong and

what would be done to look further into it. If her tests had come

back negative I would have been comfortable with her diagnosis. So,

get copies of your lab results from both places or talk to both

places so you can be explained the discrepancy. It could be very

logical but perhaps complicated. If they can't explain the

difference, you need another doctor who will explain things better.

We have links here to help you understand different tests. Hope this

helps. Let us know how you do.

Hi

I went to Northwestern Memorial in Chicago.

I had fevers for 9 weeks, no rashes, severe joint pain in my foot.

Bloodwork not normal.

They concluded stills and immediately put me on Naproxen (basically Aleve) 500mg

and Omaperazol 20mg (to protect the stomach).

I immediately responded and the fevers stopped.

I have laid off of all corn syrup products, aspartame products, enriched flour

products and red meat.  My flare ups have ceased and I feel much better.

Oh, yes... I drink Noni juice once a day.  An antioxidant.

Don't know exactly what worked where... but I'm better.

Good Luck

Hello. I'm . I have been driving my doctors crazy for 18 months with

unexplained fevers, high esr's, high liver enzymes, extreme fatigue, chest pain,

joint pain and swelling, abdominal rash, etc. I went to the Mayo Clinic in

Rochester at the beginning of this month and they think I might have Still's. I

don't check all of the boxes on the Still's list, so they're not saying for sure

yet. They didn't put me on steriods, yet. I've been " lurking " for a couple of

days, reading your posts. Its so strange to see all of " my " symptoms being

talked about. I don't feel quite so alone... Thanks.

Good morning :

I'm Ellen. I've been living with Still's for 13 years now and I'm

originally from NY. Actually, downstate from you; I was born in

Rockland County (Spring Valley), married, moved to Westchester County

and finally down here to Florida. It was a good move if not for

hurricane season.

Honey, there is no clear cut way of diagnosing Still's and most

doctors, at least the ones I know, don't like to say you have

something unless there's that defining " AHA! " moment.

Stick around, join in, you've found a great family. We have big

hearts here, wide arms to hold you with, and understanding brains that

like stimulating conversations. Welcome home.

Take care and be well.

Hi Everyone,

First off, WELCOME to all newbie's!!! I'm Helen, 58, from NW Ohio...

Its been very hectic around here for the last 2 months... For 2 weeks my monitor was out. We had a power surge and it was fried... Our son brought me out another one finally. Also lost my cell phone as it was plugged in that night when we had the surge...

Those that know me know about my grand daughters situation... They are Finally back home with us living... We were traveling 120 miles a day for 3 weeks taking them back and forth to their school after they moved back home here... We finally got them enrolled in school here so that is making it easier on us and the bus picks them up for school which is only 3 miles from us! We don't have custody yet as their mother won't allow it, but at least they are safe and hopefully will never have to go back. Its been 7 1/2 years since all this started... Have them in counseling now, hopefully it will help them to understand all they have been through... The nightmares are finally slowing down for the youngest (11) one... Two older ones (14 & 13) are still very depressed, but they are Actually smiling and laughing again! Oldest one still doesn't sleep very well, but she now can sleep with out fear for her and her sisters she said and that makes it easier for her to fall asleep... They miss their friends from their old school, but nothing else from there...

So am very sorry for not being around for you all like I should have been, but am very worn out mentally and physically at the moment... I don't sleep well either and my days now start at 5:30am... Hopefully will be able to keep up now, but please forgive me if I slack again...

What do you consider a proper dosage for iodine?

Once you have about 150 mcg/day of iodine that's all you need according

to all of the credible research that we have. The quack sites that

promote 50,000 or 100,000 mcg/day of iodine have no credible research to

back them whatsoever. The sites that claim everything from hang nail to

cancer can be cured by iodine are infested by quacks and con artists.

50 mg is 50,000 mcg. That quantity is NEVER recommended by any credible

source. However, there a number of quack sites that do. Some even

recommend 100,000 mcg/day.

It is extremely unlikely that there is any place on earth where the

natural died of humans has ever been anywhere near that level. That

being the case it's difficult to understand exactly how proponents of

such doses think we could have evolved to need a level in our daily died

of _any_ substance that does not exist.

D@mn; I've got to read what I write. That should have said, " ...It is

extremely unlikely that there is any place on earth where the
