I was not asked if I was taking any medications or anything, just the usual " Are you allergic to anything " , and actually questionable on that now that I think ablut it. Guest guest
HI PAT, Wonderful news, you are now on your way killing the dragon. Which brand of treatment are you taking? Sheerings or Roche? I just reached my middle point, 24 weeks! I did inquire about receiving the flu shot. The Dr. said no need this year, that the ribavirin was enough as that is an immune booster. Guest guest
I'm on treatment and was told to get both a flu shot and a pneumonia shot - more important on treatment than not as the immune system can be repressed...you might want to check again...I have heard this from more than one source... Guest guest
I'm about to give him another couple of Advil, another multi- vitamin, and some orange juice or water...whatever he wants. What's a good electrolyte drink? The only electrolyte drink I can think of is Pedalyte which we gave to my son when he had diareha(sp). But, I would never subject Shane to that. When Tommy wouldn't drink it I tasted it to see what he was so peeved about and it tastes like somebody dumped several teaspoons of salt in watered down koolaid. Nasty stuff... > The First shot is the worst. Your body is just not used to this > med. Guest guest
After Shane's biopsy the doc gave him codeine, but I too have read that you shouldn't take it. The doc said " in moderation " ...pretty much the party line for everything. Glad you're " up " ...let us know what we can do. Jen P.S. You know, you could make some money while on tx...just stick a jar next to the bed and when you get the shakes have your wife pitch in a quarter....I used to love those beds when we'd go on family vacations as kids....lol. > Hey everyone, > > First, I would like to say thanks to everyone for helping with my > questions. Guest guest
Oh you had me in stitches! Wonderful sense of humor. When I took my first shot I had my 2 kids with me. They wanted to be there.. Well, I sat down in a chair at the kitchen table, jabbed the needle in leg like a dart and proceeded to tell them how suddenly I felt so dizzy. My eldest son looked at me with a bland expression on his face and said Mom the medicine couldn't even have gotten from your leg to you head by now. I just went into bed and fell asleep. Guest guest
Willem, you are so funny...we sure do miss you around here...but we all understand love <g> FIRST SHOT HI.Here are some tips regarding taking yr first shot....Make sure you close all the windows so that neighbours cannot hear you scream. If you have a buddy let him be standby with the telephone and the Bible,if you.re alone....well hope for the best.Put on a CD of a heavy metal group it prevents you from hearing the needle cutting your flesh..Make sure you have a towel or something to prevent blood from messing up your carpet.Aim the needle straight towards the fat tissue otherwise you will hit a nerve or muscle and then even the heavy metal, closed windows, will prevent you from alerting the neighbourhood with your screams. You might even end up in a wheelchair. If you have no fat go to Mac .s for a year and then try again.Once you have injected yourself and nothing of the above has happened say amen close your eyes, lie down and try to forget this ordeal........Ok....I have take hundreds of shots and believe me a mosquito-bite is worse.Absolutely nothing to it.Willem. Guest guest
HI.By now you know that taken shots is a piece of cake, important is that you switch the injections sites because many people get red spots, the size of a nickel around the injection-site.They disappear in a couple of days.Left leg, right leg, left above the hips, right above the hips and vica versa or other places at yr choosing as long as there.s fat tissue which you can roll between your thumb and the finger nxt to it ,squeeze it tight and jabbed it quick and firmly.Goodluck.Willem. Guest guest
I'm glad this note resurfaced because I had begun one and put it in my filing cabinet and forgot it was there! LOL -- Willem, not only did I laugh so good at your note about doing shots (and about the exercise), the shot note reminded me of my second shot day (the thoughts I had). When I did that second shot (in my kitchen), I had an automatic, very fleeting (but strong) urge to go into the bathroom instead and do it. (Talk about recall ) ! Sheesh! I hadn't " done a shot " since 1978, but my brain vividly recalled that bathrooms were the place I used to do them -- with the blinds pulled, the door locked, and the toilet nearby. It (the recall) was almost like punishment (not very good memories, not to mention the source of my HCV). I finally shook the visions and said to myself " it ain't the 70's no more. Stop beating yourself up and just stick the damn thing in your upper thigh " lol. Anyhow..... back to seriousness. I have a question (or concern) about " red spots " and wonder if the answer (if there is one) might bear any significance on my reaction to the Pegasys. When I did mine (all three), I expected red spots to appear, (and they did -- on about the second day afterwards). My red spots, though, didn't go away in a few days. They just got bigger and bigger as the week went by (they probably reached 50-cent piece size), and they remained there for about a month. They weren't beet red and didn't itch or hurt as I recall, but it was apparent my thighs thought I had viciously assaulted them! I never showed them to the nurse or doc because 1) redness around injection site was expected, and 2) even though they were kind of big, by the time they got that big I was already off treatment and wasn't anticipating ever wanting to attempt it again and didn't care about what, if any significance they might have. So the big question is -- do you (or does anyone) know if my spots may have indicated something more serious than just a local reaction? I'm paranoid, I guess. LOL. It's not even 5:45 in the a.m. yet, and here I sit -- worried about red spots! The heat index outside yesterday was 110 (actual temp was 98). I didn't walk yesterday morning; I didn't walk yesterday evening, I didn't go to bed until midnight, and I guess I'm wide-eyed from lack of exercise. I just stepped outside a few minutes ago, and it's already 78 degrees out there -- so muggy and oppressive already it's hard for someone in GOOD health to breathe ! I wanna go to Alaska. You guys have a good day.
