Self-insured question - does Xolair automatically kick you up to highest level?

My husband and I are self-employed and have used all our COBRA options up,

so we now are looking at becoming self-insured. Our insurance agent was not

familiar with Xolair but due to a recent foot surgery felt I needed to be go

on insurance under the HIPPA coverage (level 4 - no questions asked) for the

rest of 2010. But the monthly premiums are very high compared to the next

level down so we will be revisiting our options come 2011.

My question to you all is, is anyone self-insured and at a lower level than

level 4 and on Xolair? We are trying to figure out if I can try and be

evaluated for a lower level and possibly get it if asthma and Xolair are my

only major health issues. We are looking at Blue Cross/Blue Shield as that

seems to be the best coverage and largest provider network here in Northern

Virginia.

As self insured we will be looking into prescription cost assistance via the

makers of the various medications. Appreciate that insight!

Thanks,

B.

I know that for the uninsured my Doctor's nurse has a way to get those cards

from Genentech which provide the drug but those patients are responsible for the

administration and prep fee. I can ask how she does it next time I am in.

I live in land and have land Health insurance plan through blue cross.

I have been unemployed over a year but have help from an organization called

Healthwell foundation.  You should check into them as well.
