Miniature Horses, unlike Shetland ponies, cannot support but very little weight, IF at all! And they are soooo darn cute too! Those of you who know me, know I am one of these crazy individuals who was born with a deep abiding PASSION for all things HORSE. Despite dwarfism and many surgeries, I have owned seven through the years, and my last one---until recently---who I had raised from a very tiny orphaned foal, and owned for MANY years. My very first one, was a wonderful Shetland pony, and all the rest I have owned----horses, very VERY tall. People are ALWAYS wondering how on EARTH did I manage to care for, get ON them, and ride them! All I had to do was either climb on the hood of my car, or a fence, or whatever was there, and get on. Simple. And I never ever used a saddle to ride with either, because I hated them! I love to soar across the fields at full gallop, with the wind, feeling the power and wonder of the beautiful creature beneath me. The faster, the better! I also enjoyed being " way up high " for awhile too for when on my horses, I could THEN look DOWN on the world. If all goes well, I recently learned a young miniature horse near me, very much needs a loving caring owner, so I am hoping, hoping, hoping, THIS passionate horse lover can find a way to adopt him. I sold my previous horse because everyone was telling me it was the " right " thing to do, on account of my severely deterioating health, so I did. And I have been shattered ever since. So I have a good feeling Raven (he's solid black) and I both really need each other-------miniature horse, miniature lady crazy about horses who no longer can ride, but still passionately loves them. So wish me luck!!! Adelaide In a message dated 10/10/06 9:20:47 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, medavis@... writes: Thumbelina is cute, but I do have a cautionary note about " normal " miniature horses. The miniature horses that she was born from are not even big enough for us to ride as they can only carry a maximum of about 70 lbs. They are mostly trained to pull small carts (and boy are they cute doing it!) and can pull FAR more than they can carry. I'm glad she's being so well cared for. -marty (the lady one)
