Guest guest
O.K.,, the list is inordinately quiet at present. There again, what's new? An argument breaks out, all hell is raised, then everyone ducks back under the parapet till the smoke clears:-) Soooooo, time for a bit of normality. Recently, I've been having more and more problems getting my leg over! The right one to be exact, and that is what fooled me, cos it is usually the left one which give this sort of problem. Basically, the knee gives me hell, my walking gets worse and worse and then (being the old fart what I is), it dawns on me that it has bugger all to do with my leg, my sciatic nerve being trapped (which I seriously thought it was), but dam it Fred, you need to buy some new shoes!!!!!! Hell, I've been relying more and more on a walking stick! Something HAD to be done! I've vacillated and vacillated over the fart on of going to buy them! Well, it's the bending, putting on and off, fastening etc etc etc, which puts me right off! So, as a result, I've been making do with what shoes I do have! Fine, except the are all worn down on the outside and THAT is what is causing the leg problem! The light went on in my head today! I was driving along, the way one does, my mind anywhere but where it should be - on the road - when BINGO! SHOES!!!!!!!! Came home, dug out my old home made insole which I pack on the outside to force my leg back into the straight when I am walking and thus take the pressure off my knee and the long muscles in the upper and lower halves of the leg! Now alright, it wasn't, it CAN'T be an instant cure, but just prior to writing this, I've had the insole in 15 minutes or so, and I can already feel the difference. Give the knee time to settle down, the soreness time to go and I reckon I'm about back to near 'normal' walking! Fine! but it is purely a temporary cure. I really DO need to go and buy some new shoes AND chuck out every dam pair I have, cos they are well and truly worn over! The insole works fine, but it also hammers hell out of the inside of the shoe. The padded bit digs into the base of the shoe and I keep adding more and more padding. Vicious circle really. The worry is, had I gone to my doctor with this problem, he would have probably sent me to a consultant, the consultant would have ONE thing on his mind - SPINE - and before I knew it I would probably have been operated on again! At times, it really is a case of " Achon, heal thy self. " Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but when I was a kid, I just wish I'd been offered 'leg straightening' to correct the bowing. Boy would that have saved me a hell of a lot of problems and discomfort over the years! Thanks for listening:-) Sigh, watch this space:-) Fred
