Guest guest
yea glad it's going so well Sharon LeVine THR Monday, 12-8-08, Anterior I had RTHR surgery. Monday, 12-8-08 by Dr. Klotz in Rochester, NY using the Anterior Approach. The operation took about 2 hours and it went well. The surgeon used a metal on metal insert. I was out of bed and weight bearing the day after surgery. They had me doing 2 hours of Physical Therapy every day and 1 hour of Occupational Therapy, daily. I got out of the hospital on Thursday . I'm walking very well with a walker, which I think will be eliminated at my first PT session, tomorrow. I have very little pain, and what little there is, is handled with pain pills. My progress has been very rapid and I feel great! Ed ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Wow! I used a walker for about 3 weeks or so. I'm 8 weeks post op and I'm still walking with a cane. I had considerable back weakness because of the osteoarthritis and my bad hip. I've heard of people bouncing back very quickly from this surgery. I'm 43 and thought I'd be dancing the jig by now! Guest guest
How wonderful Ed, so glad to hear this. Thank you for your encouraging post. I found out I need to have mine done, left first then right and I am beside myself. Guest guest
I am 67 years old and retired, but in reasonably good shape. I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in both hips in 2003, and the doc recommended surgery ASAP. Instead, I lost about 30 pounds, started on Celebrex, did about 8 weeks of Physical Therapy, then water PT and finally, aqua-aerobics 3 times per week since then. Things improved pretty dramatically, especially in the water. Unfortunately, this year my rt hip became extremely painful, and I decided it was time. I chose the " best surgeon in the city " , but he only used posterior approach ( thought that anterior approach. was a marketing gimmick). He was very arrogant and wouldn't even discuss the type of material he'd use till the day of surgery. I fired him, and found the my best surgeon. He answered all our questions, took plenty of time, and uses the anterior approach. So far, I couldn't be happier! I am off the walker today and on cane only. I will probably have to have the left hip done, but he won't do it within 3 months of the right hip. I wrote this, first because there are so many discouraging posts and I thought maybe those who do well don't bother to post. Secondly, if you can find a surgeon who had experience with the anterior approach, use him. The pain is much less and rehab is much easier. Thirdly, don't accept a surgeon who you're not comfortable with. Fourth, It's OK to put off surgery, but do something to improve your situation in the mean time. Guest guest
Glad to hear your doing well Ed. I am 70 and had a THR posterior method surgery at the end of August. I did the 12 session therapy thing and then moved on to the hot pool water exercise program at the local rec centre. I am doing very well and can run up stairs and walk well everyday with no discomfort. I probably will keep up with the water exercise as it feels so good and I am sure is helpful.   Guy From: Eddiegr <eddiegr@...> Subject: Re: THR Monday, 12-8-08, Anterior Joint Replacement Received: Tuesday, December 16, 2008, 3:19 PM I am 67 years old and retired, but in reasonably good shape. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your reply (I'm just getting to emails now, it's been a busy month :-)? ). After reading your email I know that the path of weight loss and other therapies is the way to go, at least for the short term. I'm taking some very potent Omega-3's (Moxxor) to help with inflammation and other natural products that may help rebuild cartilage ( one never knows). May 2009 be a wonderful year for us all. Thank you again! ~v THR Monday, 12-8-08, Anterior > > > > > > > > > I had RTHR surgery. Monday, 12-8-08 by Dr. Klotz in Rochester, NY using > the Anterior Approach. Guest guest
Sounds like the posterior method works well for men, is it the same for women?
