Try brushing with baking soda, Lynn. It is non-abrasive.

Any ideas out here to keep iodine stain off my teeth? I take iodine four times a

day and now I have charcoal grey teeth. I soak and brush every day with

peroxide, so I never thought this would become an issue.

I can try that, but I heard that it is abrasive. I have heard it both ways, so I

don't know who to believe. I guess it is more personal that anything. It might

or might not be for me. I am just afraid this iodine has dyed my teeth. I sure

hope not.

The strange thing is, no other part of my mouth or lips is grey.

Chew TRYDENT gum that is sweetened with XYLITOL four or five times a day.

Use LAVORIS mouth wash with XYLITOL.

Whiter teeth, less cavities better enamel . Alkalizes the mouth improves

breath. great for the ears, nose and GI track

I am waaaaay out of the gum and candy world. I didn't even know anyone used

xylitol in anything. So who carries this? Is it pretty common and I should find

it anywhere candy is sold? Or do I have to buy it online somewhere?

Hi Lyn,

Are you positive it's the iodine? I asked my brother, who is a dentist, and he

said iodine-stained teeth are generally yellow to brownish in color. He told me

the most common causes of grey teeth are antibiotics, certain other medications

and trauma to the teeth. None of those may apply to you but I just thought I'd

throw that out there.

Lyn,

I mix the baking soda 1/2 and 1/2 with bentonite clay powder, it cleans the

teeth..  mine are stained from smoking and coffee.  Don't smoke any more and

drink coffee no more than once a day and  drink tea..  yet my teeth have

really

cleaned up... including the plaque.

I don't know what else it could be. Out of all I am taking, only Iodine was the

thing I INCREASED and that is when I started seeing grey teeth. I was taking it

by drops until I learned to take it by milligrams, and I don't know how to

measure milligrams, so I just started filling a dropper three times a day. In my

mix I have Iosol, DMSO, andrographis, which is an herb, urea to quell the DMSO

smell, pine needle oil, minerals.

Hmmm. I wonder if I should not mix them together. I wonder if something is

reacting with something else and causing the stain in my teeth. I know I need

all of them so I have to take them all. Aargh. This is so hard. I take so much

besides this, I wanted to put some together to make it a little easier.

If I had to guess I'd say it was the DMSO + something else in the mix.

,

Since you got me thinking this way, I called Optimally Organic to ask them about

this and I am pretty sure I know now what I have done wrong. I have to split

this up and at least take the minerals out and dilute them. I was supposed to be

diluting them and had forgotten that because the print is so tiny on the bottle,

I had not read it when the bottle arrived an I did not remember what the website

said when I was on there.

Guess we all live and learn as we go.

Vitamin C takes iodine stains out of countertops, etc.. If the discoloration

is the iodine then swishing with Vitamin C will remove the discoloration. Also

increase intake of Vitamin C. There is no set number for vitamin C dosage - it

is completely individual. One person may do fine at one dose yet another person

need substantially more.

Iodine displaces many elements in the body ... heavy metals, bromides,

fluorides, etc... Some other element may have gotten stirred up in your system

and settled in your teeth. Fluoride can discolor teeth and even if you do not

currently use fluoride it could be coming out of storage in your body. Some of

the tetracycline type antibiotics can also cause gray teeth if you happen to be

on one of those.

That sounds like at least a good excuse for me to use if I am approached by

anyone, since I know my body has gone through a detox this week. But I really

believe I have discovered my error, a couple hours ago. I had started taking

minerals, but not diluting them as the directions said. I just forgot with

everything I am doing besides that and I didn't double check when I should have

put the time into it. Even though I drink alot, that is not the optimal way to

get those minerals into me. So I am paying for my error. I just hope minerals

naturally get pulled out of the teeth by the lymph and blood and such in the

process of natural body functions. Meanwhile I will be brushing with baking

soda. But I don't think I can affect this topically.

I know the problem is starting to clear up already, so I know it was because I

was taking the minerals the wrong way. I will use the bentonite clay mix to

brush with, though. I had not thought of that and it sounds like a good mix.

Someone else said they use bentonite clay and like it.

It takes the harshness out of the baking soda and tastes pretty good, but there

is a bit of an aquired taste, as with anything new, but I now prefer it to

regular toothpaste.

I chew xylitol gum but I don't like trident because it's also got

aspartame/sucralose in it. You can get trident w/xylitol anywhere, and most

sugar free gums have a combo of xylitol and artificial sweeteners. I prefer to

get gum sweetened only with xylitol, which is not that easy to find in stores.

It is on amazon, however; a quick search will reveal it in bulk.

I like to get things on amazon because i'm on swagbucks and i've got an endless

supply of free amazon gift cards. (http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/leahnuskin).

get paid to search, do surveys, buy stuff from certain merchants, etc. you get

paid in " swagbucks " which you can redeem for amazon gift cards or other prizes.

I end up getting $20-$25 in gift cards per month, so I just save them up to make

a purchase on amazon. I've earned and spent over $200 amazon gc from this site

in the past year. cool cuz you can get just about anything that's available on

amazon now.

i chew xylitol gum every time I drink coffee to prevent stains.

I have tried it already. It's more pleasant than some other things I have used

over the years, so I will add this to my oral care. I've got a big bucket of

bentonite clay to use up. I can hardly lift it so it has to weigh about as much

as I do, because I am pretty capably strong.

Lyn,

I used to worry about that too until I read an article by a dentist who had done

some research into the abrasiveness of baking soda and determined it was

actually not abrasive at all, so I continue to brush with it. It removes

tea/coffee stains from china and glass.

Good luck,

Hi Tanstaafl

I followed the guess I resulted with following the below post and I made a phone

call to a certain company of the minerals I was taking and that further steered

me. I had been adding my minerals to my spoon of all these things and that was

the big problem. The minerals need to be diluted in 3 oz water per

drop.Considering the amount of drops I was including in my mix, I should have

been diluting them in 15 oz of water. That's a big OOPS. Once I changed this

yesterday, I started brushing with bentonite clay and baking soda and tonight my

teeth are almost white again. My body seemed to know just what to do and drew

the minerals out of my teeth and put them to use because I had to file some

nails that grew out just since this morning! These are GOOOOD minerals.

So - mystery solved, and things are getting back to normal.

Good detective work!

So... care to share what minerals these are?

I've been taking the Vital Earth Fulvic/Humic Acid mineral blend, but

I'm always open to upgrading... ;)

Tanstaff:

I wanted to share an update that I believe are my minerals. Tho I am also taking

100 to 200 Mg of iodine per day this week, so this might be helping, too. My

nails, which were in bad shape for years and years, are getting more growth

since I started the minerals and this week they have taken a jump in growth. I

have just one nail that still struggles to grow I think because it is my worst

nail with ridges. There are ridges in most of my nails and that condition has

not changed, but the rest are growing. I don't paint them, so they are au

naturale. I've got parasite yet, so I think that condition is what is keeping

the minerals blocked from doing more for me. Though I did have a surprise Sun

morning. I passed another one. This is was the day after I had taken a double

dose of iodine to start increasing my doses.

Have you been taking your minerals long and have they helped you? It really

helps when you know what you spend money on is actually doing something for

you.How do you take yours?

Well, I started a whole lot of things all at once, so it would be very

difficult for me to say one way or another with any degree of certainty,

but yes, I believe they are helping (hair, nails, skin)...

I simply add mine to water (one or two capfuls) or my whey drink, 2 or 3

times per day.

Good idea & I do that, but I still must supplement magnesium orally or I

get muscle cramps.
