If you eat grains and dried beans, they're easy to store. Fruits and vegetables can be dried in a dehydrator. Meat can be dried or pressure canned. A rifle and ammunition can be used to hunt game. Guest guest
I'm doing these things as well, but was looking for storable meal type options that aren't so heavy (no cans) and don't contain a lot of harmful metals or ingredients. I've been looking at freeze-dried, but mostly running into MSG & GMO problems. --Leah > > > > I am researching storable food for an emergency and am finding most > > of them have lots of artificial stuff, GMOs or MSG. > > > > Anybody have any suggestions? > > If you eat grains and dried beans, they're easy to store. Guest guest
I just bought salad seeds and other vegetable seeds for sprouting. We already have the Berkey water filter as well as a water distiller. Also got ourselves the " aerogarden " to grow veggies and herbs. Now have in pots some important trees which we keep indoor bec. they are very rich in nutrients like moringa oleifera. It is difficult to buy genuine organic prepared foods, their ingredients would all be organic then bang...canola oil...yikes! > > > > I am researching storable food for an emergency and am finding most > > of them have lots of artificial stuff, GMOs or MSG. > > > > Anybody have any suggestions? > > If you eat grains and dried beans, they're easy to store. Guest guest
I agree about the canola oil--sometimes I'm surprised how the organic intentions are sabotaged by a stealth ingredient in many packaged foods. I'm coming to realize I need to stay away from industrialized " processed " food altogether, organic or not. In my research, I did find an interesting option for storable meals: they're pre-made, but freeze-dried fresh, so there is nothing like MSG added or any GMO ingredients. This is the only company I can find focusing on these values. The best part is they're offering free samples (12 servings I think!) So I'm definitely trying them. If anyone else is interested, the link is: freesamples.efoodsglobal.com Thanks for all the advice as well! Leah >just bought salad seeds and other vegetable seeds for sprouting. I'd love to find a company that distributes animal protein based survival foods without any of the crap... I've about decided to buy my own dehydrator (Excalibur) and start making my own beef jerky, bone broth based dehydrated soups, etc, but it will be a lot of work (especially the soups).
