One liter of coconut oil cost less than $ 10.00, it should last 3 to 4 weeks, not much expense to treat brain disorders, Alzheimer's , Parkinson's, Dementia, etc. Use the brand that is the cheapest and works. Dr Newport said she went to the local Health Food Store and purchased coconut oil. Try several brands if necessary. Please show me more results. Guest guest
I use far more than 1 liter a month, so I buy it by the case of gallons to minimize my costs. I recently read on this list that MCT oil is available by the quart, so I have added that 3 times a week. If I suspected I was starting to get Alzheimer's I would take double doses of MCT oil daily. BTW, while info on coconut oil in Bruce's books is highly useful, by the time a book gets into print, there may be newer research which is only available on the internet. Guest guest
I started taking coconut oil 3 or 4 years ok. Mostly used it to cook with. A few months ago, I started taking a couple of tablespoons a day, but it wasn't until I started the MCT oil did I notice a major improvement in brain function and energy levels, particularly strength in my muscles. Yes, it does initially gets you hyper until you get used to it, so start slow. I had to back off to 1 tbs. and will start increasing 1 tsp. at a time. I definitely reccommend the MCT oil. I still cook with the coconut oil. And I have been convinced not to cook with Louana brand because of this list. Although I have only used it on occassion. ________________________________ From: Alobar <Alobar@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Sat, July 30, 2011 2:33:28 PM Subject: Re: FW: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's  I use far more than 1 liter a month, so I buy it by the case of gallons to minimize my costs. Guest guest
HeHe. I drink an ounce or 2 of MCT oil along with my cup of undenatured whey. Does not make me hyper at all. I wish it did, sometimes. Just to show we are all quirky in terms of diet and moods. Guest guest
Yes sir, as long as you like the taste, I am always surprised that different brands taste different. I have tried a number of them and the last one is the best. It's Artisana. I never just ate the Louanna CO, just cooked with it, I always bought a bettter brand for eating by itself and especially popping popcorn. C.  ________________________________ From: <wilson19262003@...> " Coconut Oil " <Coconut Oil > Sent: Sat, July 30, 2011 4:28:20 PM Subject: Re: FW: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's  I use Natures Way Organic Pure Extra Virgin Coconut OIL from the helath food store. is that one OK to take 3-4 tablespoons per day From: Cody <lecody2001@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2011 2:33 PM Subject: Re: FW: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's  iHerb.com Now brand http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-MCT-Oil-100-Pure-32-fl-oz-946-ml/13585?at=0 Use this Referral code and get 5.00 off your first order.... I have actually never given this out to anyone.. wow.. anyone can use it by the way... Guest guest
& Lyn, The MCT oil that wikipedia talks about is pure coconut oil (notice that it mentions ALL of the medium chain fatty acids) while I think the MCT oil that you and Alobar are referring to is fractionated coconut oil - which contains only capric and caprylic acids because the lauric acid (and others) have been removed. Here is a site that explains it: http://tinyurl.com/3oyxlb9 Dee Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/176921-what-is-fractionated-coconut-oil/#ixzz1\ TcqmMISJ > > > > > > > > > >  _____ > > > > From: Cain Ltd [mailto:Cainltd@...] > > Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2011 1:18 PM > > 'dgk@...' > > Subject: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's > > > > > > > > Coconut Oil and brain disorders. > > > > One liter of coconut oil cost less than $ 10.00,  it should last 3 to 4 > > weeks, not much expense to treat brain disorders, > > > > Alzheimer's , Parkinson's, Dementia,  etc. Use the brand that is the > > cheapest and works. Guest guest
Yes it is fractionated... and I was aware of that. Still, I noticed nothing, no effect what so ever until I tried the MCT Oil from Now Foods. Thanks for pointing that out for Lyn... ________________________________ From: Dolores <dgk@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Sat, July 30, 2011 5:32:46 PM Subject: FW: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's  & Lyn, The MCT oil that wikipedia talks about is pure coconut oil (notice that it mentions ALL of the medium chain fatty acids) while I think the MCT oil that you and Alobar are referring to is fractionated coconut oil - which contains only capric and caprylic acids because the lauric acid (and others) have been removed. Guest guest
Thanks I appreciate that. I always bought from Swansonvitamins.com because they have offers every month and some include free shipping on any size order. They also will let you return anything within a year if you are not happy with the product and they pay the shipping to send it back. So they are a pretty good deal, too. But just from a cursory perusal of iHerb, it looks like they might have more choices of the things I like to buy. I will look at their site further. LEC615 anyway, they have great prices and you get free shipping over 40.00 and they offer additional savings depending on how much you spend. I have never paid for shipping and I can't beat the prices anywhere. Oh sure, some places are cheaper, but once you add shipping... not so much. Guest guest
Hi , Yes, I knew you were but thought folks new to it might be confused as so many of the websites talk about coconut oil if you google MCT oil - or they don't really explain the difference between the two well enough. When you say you noticed an improvement in brain function did that include short term memory? Guest guest
I just started taking iodine and learning about it. I attached a file I am adding to, so there is alot of info there. I have more I can send later if you want more. This is something you and everyone should add to their diet. We all are seriously deficient in iodine and we are all hurting because of it. Look into this for your weight and your ills. Lyn ________________________________ From: Cody <lecody2001@...>  , , and Dee All I can tell you about it my experience. I started taking 3 tbs a day. I had been taking VCO in larger amounts but didn't notice any effect until I did MCT oil. I noticed more energy, hyper, actually a regular chatty cathy for a while... more strength in my muscles. My brain worked better, yes, short term memory is improved. I cut back to 1 tbs because of the chatty cathy aspect and am increasing slowly, 1 tsp at a time. To put it into perspective. I am 58 years old, have a number of chronic illnesses. COPD, Autoimmune, myoclonus, hasimotos, can't lose weight to save myself.. told I have CLL [chronic lymphocytic leukemia] in bone marrow only.....blah blah blah. For the last 10 years or so since my health went south I have tried many things. I have settled on vitamin D, fish oil and MCT oil as forevers. And try other things as they come to my attention. Most I drop when I can't see any help or have side effects. Based on Duncans Reccommendations, I am going to try the Whey Protein... Due to the COPD and problems with the usual drugs, I started N aceytl-cysteine to loosen mucus, it works well. I walk as much as possible.. For now, I have to use O2 while walking, eat real food, stay close to the paleo style diet. I get NOW MCT oil from www. iHerb.com. If you have never ordered from them,

Guest guest
Micheal I started out taking 3 tablespoons a day... too much too soon for me. Now I am taking 1 tablespoon in the am and 1 teaspoon in the afternoon. I plan on working up to 2 or 3 tablespoons over time. Remember, I have multiple health issues and MCT oil seems to practically be a miracle for me, you may or may not experience the results that I have.  You might even experience some that I haven't. It makes me wonder if I have a problem digesting and utilizing long chain and other fats for energy because of the noticable increase in energy and strength in my muscles, Even my IBS has improved considerably. I think I read, unless I read wrong, which is possible, that the recommened doseage is 3 tablespoons, not teaspoons. Maybe you're right and I'm taking way to much or you just don't need any more that teaspoons. Can you help? Am I taking to much. Guest guest
-, you are attributing the difference in brain function due to the brand, not the style of oil? -What other kinds had you tried previoiusly to no difference? -What kind of MCT oil is the NOW brand? Fractionated or whole? -What is the oil source? coconut?  -What are the usual other sources for MCT oil? Are any greater in capacity of goodness than coconut oil? -Which is considered better: fractionated MCT or coconut oil with all the acids left in? Guest guest
So far all I have done is mix it in yougurt. Can't taste it at all. If I remember correctly, they don't recommend frying with it.. but do recommend using it in salad dressing.. ________________________________ From: Duncan Crow <duncancrow@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Sun, July 31, 2011 3:23:53 PM Subject: FW: Re: Start Talking about Coconut Oil and Alzhiemer's  Thanks for the info that many suggest mixing MCT oil with VCO. I suggested that myself on-list, following the observation that research shows some lysis of red blood cells is caused by VCO's lauric acid. More lauric acid is not necessarily better IMO. If you choose to deep fry in MCT oil or use it on salad, please let us know how it performs. all good, Duncan --- In Coconut Oil , Cody <lecody2001@...> wrote > Most web sites you fine recommend mixing 16 oz MCT to 12 0z VCO, I have some > mixed, but mostly I take it straight and cook with the VCO. > > laura
