Guest guest
Hi, I received this message from another group in regards to joining " grouply.com " Diane FYI, I have seen this on other lists I belong to and it is NOT a good thing: ATTENTION! There is a new social engineering attack vector masquerading as a social networking site. It is called grouply.com and it has already compromised this list. Do ***NOT*** open any links to grouply.com or any page on that site- EVEN if you get the link from anyone you may know. WHY? This site asks you to enter your own username and password. It then uses this information to harvest list mail and email addresses. It, reportedly also changes your settings. To what end, I have not yet determined. It gathers copies of all posts to the list and makes them available to any " member " in the grouply network of a member of this list. This compromises our privacy. I, for one, am less likely to post on some topics until we are able to correct this. You likely received an invite already from Murghail to join grouply as I did. I have not spoken to her yet, but suspect she was not aware of the nature of this site and willingly joined grouply thereby opening the rest of the list to the visibility and potential danger. Do NOT join! What is the danger? Well, I have not confirmed any definite danger yet, but, potentially, with your username and password, grouply could also harvest your personal email for other logins passwords or even account financial informatio n if you have it sitting in your email account. HOWTO learn more. A good first step is always consult the Oracle... Do a Google search on just " grouply " There are hits on the first page about users complaining about this new " service
Guest guest
For your information.WARNING ABOUT GROUPLY.COM This is a new site which advertises they can make accessing yourgroups faster and easier. Most of us are too seasoned to fall forsomething like this, but I am posting this as a warning. This is what happens when you join:'First, when a member joins, itautomatically changes their primary email address for the groups, giving them a @grouply.com extension. This is being done unaware tothose who are joining.Secondly, members who join the grouply website are having to givetheir member ID and password. This opens up a security issue forthose members.Thirdly, once a member joins grouply, it opens access to the filesand posts of each group to the grouply website. Grouply staff canthen access these files. If they get hacked, then it opens the doorsto the groups getting hacked as well. It has also been reported thatit's generating a lot of spam already.'In other words, information from a group can be made accessible toeveryone, and massive amounts of spam with your email address can begenerated. The following information tells you the steps which need to betaken if someone has joined Grouply.comIDENTIFY THEFT AT GROUPLY.COMThere is a message going out to different advertisingand suggesting that you join a new group called GROUPLY. This groupclaims to help manage all your and you will get asummary, at the end of the day, telling you what is going on in allyour groups.IF YOU JOIN THIS GROUP, they use your ID and password topost'mass mailings' (can be junk, can be porno) and send them toanyone, and since it's YOUR ID they are using, others will think itis coming from you. For instance, you could get an email CLAIMINGthat it came from 'emagic2' group and it really is not fromthis group. I could get an email, with this mass mailing, claiming itcame from me, and it wouldn't have been from me.Again, IF YOU HAVE JOINED THIS GROUP called 'GROUPLY' IMMEDIATELYleave Grouply. Then go into your account at:_mygroups_ (mygroups) and change your password. Somegroups have posted that this will help. Unsubbing from that groupwon't make a difference (but I think you will want to) so change your Password. By joining this group you have also exposed all yourgroups, group members and group leaders tohacking of their emails and group information. Because of thisproblem, all members with a email grouply.com are being removed fromthe affected groups. This is the only way to protect all the members. This is how Identity theft gets going. They now have your real email, your emails, any emails listed in your group and can mailas you in and out of the .I hope you understand what is happening and will take precautions toprotect your ID.
