Guest guest
Anyone know of a sure-fire way to get mold out of a car? (I mean, without wrecking it) We're not entirely sure what happened. My hubby thought it was the drain hose (?) (something like that) for the air conditioning that (probably) got pushed away or shortened when the starter was replaced in late April. I think the mold became noticeable a while after that, especially since the car was not drive much for several weeks. This is a moldy climate anyway and with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergilliosis and major asthma not to mention sinusitis, it makes me sick to even stand beside the car with the windows open. We've pulled up part of the carpet, run our hands over it (including the foam underneath) and sniffed our hands but don't smell molds. The mats WERE moldy and have been removed. My hubby poured bleach in the vents below the windshield but that didn't seem to matter. We've considered the HVAC system but actually, when the air conditioning runs we don't notice the moldy smell coming out. In desperation I've left it open (all the doors and windows) in the head of the day to air out. Still moldy. Yesterday I had hubby put a dish of vinegar under the dashboard exactly in the middle of the floor where the big hump is (console?)and put two fans in the car with each window open about 4 inches. The car is in the garage. This evening the garage reeked of mold but upon sticking my nose through the cracked window in the car I didn't notice mold. Of course, the question is, " is it really gone or just hiding? " My hubby also injected Lysol (using old Xolair syringes) into the foam under the carpeting and we threw some swimming pool Shock crystals under there. I'm not working now and we absolutely cannot afford to be without the car. So, somehow or another we've got to fix the problem. It was NOT left out in rain or flood and nothing was spilled so it's got to be some other water-producing problem. My head is stopped up like a cement truck despite allegra, 3 inhaled asthma meds, nasal spray (saline)and tons of pseudoephedrine.
