The amount is based on IgE and weight (primarily at least). Guest guest
The last time I checked, the vials were running $600-$700 apiece. I get 3 vials every 2 weeks, at a cost of about $3700. At $2300 a month, that sounds like 2 vials every 2 weeks. The vials only come in one size, equivalent to a 150mg dose. I believe it is possible to get a 225mg dose, which would be a vial and a half; one would still pay the cost for both vials, though. It takes about half an hour to dilute the powder in the vial into the injectible liquid (please excuse my nonmedical terminology). Doug is right: dosage is based on weight and IgE score. Full prescribing information (including the insert that comes in the box) is available at www.xolair.com Addy Group Co-owner. > > I am a little confused. I get only 1 shot. It costs $2,300 a month. Anyone else getting just 1 shot? Just curious. I have been the shots since Jan. am can say I feel a difference now. I hardly ever use my inhaler and my lungs seem to clear much faster when I get an infection. Yipee!! Sorry I don't write more, been really busy but I do read every post. Wishing you all good health. Guest guest
I have been on Xolair so long that I can't even remember what my IGE score was. I had no problem with my insurance in 2003 and have been taking the same two vials every two weeks ever since. The Xolair nurse at my allergist calls me first thing in the morning to confirm my appointment and when I get there my vials are ready to go. My doctor has about 23 of his patients on xolair. All of his 8 nurses are trained to give it but one is specifically chosen to head it all up. All I get is a bill for my copay of 150.00 every three months. Guest guest
I believe the number of shots is based on the prescribed dose. The dose is based, in part, by body mass. I go in once per month and receive 2 shots, one full vial each. Depending on ones size, age and other medical conditions, dosing will vary.  Mike McBride ________________________________ From: janicem611 <janicem611@...> Sent: Mon, May 17, 2010 6:30:52 AM Subject: [ ] One shot  I am a little confused. Guest guest
I get just one shot every four weeks. For about six months my doc had changed it to 1 shot every six weeks, but I was having to use my inhaler and neb more often and had my first resp. infection in three years, so he changed it back to one every four weeks. Over the last few months that has made a difference.  What stuns me is the cost for your one shot. I thought mine was high enough. But I am also on medicare and think that limits even what they can charge for the xolair.
