Guest guest
Just to add my two cents, it may be helpful to know what sort of pain it can sometimes be.. Just like everything else to do with this beast CLL, different people can have a different experience. The pain I had was a deep, burning ache on one side of my lower back, the same area where the reddish bumps were appearing.unlike any other pain I've known. Another clue was that the bumps were appearing in what looked a little like streaks. The pain came at night, lasted a few hours, and then subsided. After the second night of the same, I went to the dermatologist and was prescribed an anti-viral and prednisone. Within hours, things improved greatly. Don't try to " tough it out; " rather, go as soon as possible to see a doctor. It can make a huge difference. Karni
Guest guest
You should be sensitive to the side effects Valtrex or its generic, valacyclovir. They can be significant, and alterations may be in order if they emerge. Guest guest
I believe the other commonly prescribed drugs for shingles (acyclovir, zovirax)and (famiciclovir, famvir)have the similar side effect warnings. See links - http://www.drugs.com/acyclovir.html http://www.drugs.com/mtm/famciclovir.html Here's a link to the excellent CLL Canada website (re: shingles) http://cllcanada.ca/2010/index.htm?pages/shingles.html Also of interest - here's two articles, one from renowned CLL expert Dr. Terry Hamblin (shingles overview) & another from Updates @ CLL Topics (see pg. 3 about managing shingles pain). http://mutated-unmuated.blogspot.com/2011/05/shingles-again.html http://updates.clltopics.org/3085-cancer-and-painkillers Good luck - Patti K > > You should be sensitive to the side effects Valtrex or its > generic, valacyclovir. Guest guest
I too recently had shingles and the main concern of my doctor was preventing eye damage (this is where it first appeared for me).
Guest guest
Had shingles a year ago. So, far, only the one time. Quite painful, and " left-over " pain lasted for 3 months. My dermatologist prescribed an over-the-counter medicine that was both soothing and cooling. -SARNA (original), and it helped some. (Found it at Wal-Mart). He also prescribed Betameth DIP ointment (.05%) which, I believe, is a strong cortisone-type cream, to use occasionally. Of course, I was on anti-virals and at one point even took a prescribed pain reliever for a few days. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Because shingles only occurs when one's immune system isn't pulling to its capacity, my approach is to beef up one's immune system rather than either killing the virus directly or interfering with its progress, although I do support lysine as a fachia layer strengthener. (Actually I use lysine but with arginine, in an anti-aging approach that has been researched as an immune system activity improver.) Shingles hides out along the spine so topical treatments are ineffective beyond suppressing actual lesions. To get at the viruses in fachia, the nerve conduit, and the spine, the key is to improve immune response. Glutathione level forms the seat of immune response. Researchers have indicated that glutathione level is the single most reliable indicator of prognosis and disease progress. At any rate people on undenatured whey and selenium generally don't get shingles *or other infections* because the supplement is the best glutathione increaser. Glutathione also protects individual cells, white blood cells, and the blood serum, from oxidation by any source including an infectious agent. This is how it also works to improve status of an HIV infection, which like shingles, is also (or is said to be also) viral. all good, Duncan > > Best advice I ever received for shingles was announced on BBC radio in Great > Britain. Guest guest
Thanks Bob; any preference for brand or was it a DIY silver solution? I've seen drug-resistant infections cured but circulation around the spine isn't very good so I wouldn't have thought silver, which requires a direct hit, would reach it. Nice to know it can. all good, Duncan > >> > >> Best advice I ever received for shingles was announced on BBC radio in > >> Great > >> Britain. Guest guest
I would say taking coconut oil orally is the best way to treat shingles. I developed shingles during my long flight from Vancouver to Sydney last year (I had it before so I knew exactly how it looked like). Didn't want to take any medication. Got a bottle of extra virgin coconut oil in Sydney upon arrival. Took 2 tablespoon of CO three times a day. Whole episode cleared in two days. Hope this will help. Guest guest
Bob sometime a go I once read that the best silver would be 5ppm and under . Its been a while since Ive used it . Has this been your experience(5ppm)? thanks mike
Guest guest
Duncan, I make my own. It's 80% ionic, 20% particulate or thereabouts. I do think there is a more powerful form of CS on the market now, called SilverSol. This is silver tetroxide. The company that makes this is Guardian. It cured my food poisoning in 3 hours flat taking just two tablespoonfuls every hour. Amazing. Guest guest
Mike, I used 10ppm and it is perfectly safe. Any form of ionic silver safe and it isn't possible to make it stronger than 15 - 20ppm in any case. Guest guest
-- Joe I know what you say about vco At the first onset I started gulping it down. When i was told about the monolaurin I went to their site. iam surprised no one has yet (smile) see what it is extracted from . It just backs up even more what vco can do. mike
Guest guest
Thanks Bob. I make my own EICS and it works every time even on drug-resitstant infections; however an acquaintance told me none of the commercial silver waters he used worked on his genital herpes until he used nanosilver orally. Perhaps it was getting at the infection where it hides near the spine. all good, Duncan > > Duncan, > > I make my own. It's 80% ionic, 20% particulate or thereabouts. If my brother who has the shingle blisters on his head that haven't opened yet uses iodine on the blisters will they dry up, cure or help the blisters go away? Iodine is good for so many skin problems that i was hoping its worth a try. Would it hurt him to try this? Thank you for helping so many peopl with this site. Guest guest
, Do you put the Mg. oil directly on the blisters? If so, how long does it usually take for the blisters to go away? Just for the group's information, I have successfully used Zovirax ointment (prescription only) for the past 30 years whenever I get a herpes on my lips. Works like a charm providing you put it on as soon as the itching and pain begins. Sores usually only last 3-4 days with this treatment and the pain is greatly reduced. That is why I am curious about the Mag. oil, if it can be spread locally on a larger area of shingles? thanks, Pam > > I use L-Lysine and Magnesium oil when I get shingles outbreaks. > > Buist, ND HC > > > shingles > > > > has anyone ever uses Lugol's 2.2% iodine or tinticure of iodine on the blisters from shingles? my brother has shingles on his head and neck and the blisters have not opened yet. >
Guest guest
I've used iodine on cold sores/herpes on lips and it's worked great! Also hydrogen peroxide topically, ice topically, and lysine orally every couple of hours. No chocolate, nuts or other high arginine foods as those work against the lysine as well as sunlight/burn which is what has caused my worst cold sores. My daughter had opthalmic shingles that started at her hairline and spread across her forehead to her eyelid. Zovirax was able to stop the shingles from getting into her eye and causing blindness right at the eyelid. But it has to be started within 72 hrs of the initial breakout. We were *right* at the 72 hr timeline when we started the Zovirax and had to double her dose after it initially didn't seem to be working. Then, just as it was getting ready to enter the eye, it stopped. If it were me, I would try both the iodine and hydrogen peroxide topically unless I had reason to believe that it would be harmful.LaraleeOn Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 5:51 PM, pam52@... <pam52@...> wrote:  , Do you put the Mg. oil directly on the blisters? Guest guest
I combine my treatment with chiropractic since it goes off my spine nerve. I don't remember how long it took since it has been about 2 years since I last had an outbreak. I normally can catch it before it breaks out into a sore and then I do place the Mg oil directly on it. If it were open I would think it would hurt. I have read that coconut oil works on the sores too. Lauricedin is also a good thing to take when you get shingles. Guest guest
My brother has been taking Lauricidin for shingles. He had outbreaks every winter but so far, nothing since he started taking it. I used to have cold sores but never get them any more. I take 2-3 scoops a day. It also got rid of warts on my hand about 4 months after I started taking it--they just disappeared and never came back. Love this stuff. Be careful as it can cause die off symptoms--take a little at first and increase slowly. > > has anyone ever uses Lugol's 2.2% iodine or tinticure of iodine on the blisters from shingles? my brother has shingles on his head and neck and the blisters have not opened yet. >
