I was at my doc's office and to be honest with you I really feel as if I was treated like a total moron by his " administrative assistant " . (This is not the first, nor the last doctor's office who has treated me for Asthma & Allergies.) I have had asthma for almost 35 years now. I've used a rescue inhaler ever since. Started taking Xolair in 2005 and I've been a Xolair Patient Speaker since 2007. Lately I've had a hell of a time trying to get my shots, because th doc only has limited hours, only open two days per week, and his office has been closed A LOT due to the crazy weather we've had here in the North East. I am literally a month behind in my doses! Since going on Xolair I have been lucky enough to get off the oral evil candy, as well as everything else used to control my Asthma. Well except for the Advair 150/50,which I'm still on, too. I do have Xoponex and Albuterol solutions for my nebulizer, but I use that as a last resort. I use Pro Air HFA as a rescue inhaler, as the Proventil HFA has something in the propellant that I am " hypersensitive " towards. I got a lecture from the " admin. assistant " when I asked her if she could send in a refil request to my mail order pharmacy for the Pro Air. She told me that she would have to do a " daw " script. I was like " uh..NO!,because I CAN NOT use the Provenil.. " Well needless to say she didn't let me finish and proceeded to give me a 10 minute lecture on how she'd have to spend more time trying to get the name brand, because I didn't want the " daw " script. I was like really! So I then said to her that she needed to make sure that she put in a request for the correct number of inhalers as 1 inhaler IS NOT a full months supply for me, as it comes up at least 46 inhalations short! My script is written 2 inhalations every 4 to 6 hours as needed and as per " Athletic Induced Asthma " recommendations ( 2 puffs done in 10 min intervals 30 min before exercising) from the 200 meter dose inhaler. ( which is the standard and FDA approved dosage for all Albuterol based HFA inhalers.) I have also been using a spacer for the last 25 odd years. I thought I knew the right way to use my meds, but I was pretty much told, in front of that same waiting room full of other patients that I don't. Guess I've been doing it all wrong the last 34 years. Yep...totally unprofessional, to say the least. AND I'm shopping around for a new AAI Doc as we speak!!!! Guest guest
@ our office we have 3 Xolair days. We offer every Wed from 9:30 -6:30pm every Sat from 8:00-11:30am and every other Thursday from 10:00-4:30pm. We also had every other Monday. We did have to stop our Xolair Monday clinics due to the lack of patients. Keep in mind we are in Texas, and do not have the crazy temp that will interfere with our Xolair clinics. At our office we treat everyone like family. and I work really hard making every patient feel at ease. We are very close to our patients we have a special bond. I wish you the best of luck in finding a new doctor or infusion center. Guest guest
I do my shots at home but when I first started I got them at Southeastern Lung and Sleep center. The staff was very professional and they worked dilligently to meek the needs of every patient. I am so sorry that you had such a terrible expeience at you specialst office. You should realy complain and not allow her to continue to do that to patients. My doctos take you behind the door for any type of discussion. I agree you should shop around for a new doctor but I would tell your current doctor why you are doing it. She did not start this ugly behavor with you and she will not stop with you. ----- Original Message ----- From: Adah Voigt <asthmatic50@...> xolair users < > Sent: Tue, 01 Mar 2011 03:39:22 -0000 (UTC) Subject: Re: [ ] having a rant And I can vouch for Joanna and for . Guest guest
I once changed specialists based on bad experiences with front office staff. At the practice I go to now, administrative personnel are not allowed to do anything close to that. I agree with posters here; you should let the doctor or the office manager know about your experience and why you are shopping. Guest guest
I am so blessed to have a wonderful allergist and staff. I have tons of other health problems and see a lot of specialists and I can honestly say that this dr and his office are the BEST! He is the ONLY allergist in the area but they always know my name and make me feel like one of their family. I wrote a nice note to their home office (they are owned by a local medical group) and told them how wonderful they are. Guest guest
Our insurance company has told us to send a written complaint to them when there are significant problems with a clinic. I've only done it once when I was denied access to a specialist. I agree with other posters - perhaps the doc him/herself doesn't know what's happening and needs informed. The first person you have to look out for though is yourself. > > I need some feedback here...especially from any nurses or RT's out there. > > > I was at my doc's office and to be honest with you I really feel as if I was treated like a total moron by his " administrative assistant " . Guest guest
Have you considered speaking with your doctor about the experiences you have had? I ask because I very nearly ditched an allergist over similar issues with his staff and a mistake that he or his transcriptionist made with a letter that was sent to my son's pediatrician. (One word was incorrect, changing the entire slant of that paragraph. It's a he said she said on the assignment of fault.) It took some time to work through the issues, but I now trust him to care for my entire family. In fact, the relationship that I was able to build with him after that issue has made it difficult to find a new allergist now that we have moved out of state. No one can meet the standard he set! Perhaps a complaint from you would lead to real changes so that you would not have to forge an entirely new relationship with a new allergist?
