Guest guest
The card is worthless in terms of going through security -- can you imagine how easily one could be faked? You will be wanded -- best to tell them ahead of time. Guest guest
Really, the card doesn't do a thing. They are required to wand you and pat you down. flying Hi All --? simple question -- how do you get through security at the airport?? Do you show your scars?? Guest guest
Faye, I asked my OS for a card as proof of my implant. He said they don't even bother giving them out anymore, as Security will want to wand you and perhaps see proof of the scar. Guest guest
They don't ask to see your scar.I've been through security probably 12 times since my first replacement.always been wanded and patted down.they aren't that ridiculous to ask to see your scar.at least not with me in Orlando, Washington National, BWI, Newark, Asheville, NC, Chicago, Charlotte, Seatte, etc. the places I've been. It's no big deal.people don't need to be paranoid or worry about it. Guest guest
I think we may be scaring people without reason. None of us like to be picked out of the crowd and inconvenienced. But, we have fake hips that set off metal detectors and therefore warrant extra scrutiny to better protect everyone. I have not read through all the posts on this topic, but has anyone ever been required to drop their pants and show a scar to get through airport security? And, I sure hope the TSA staff conduct " thorough " wandings. That's their job and it protects everyone. If they touch you inappropriately, you should file a complaint. But that could happen regardless of whether you have a fake hip. As I said in an earlier post, I fly fairly regularly and always get wanded and patted down. The joint replacement ID card and pictures of x-rays (how would they know the x-rays are of you) will do you no good. You will get wanded and patted down. It's no big deal, don't sweat it. > > > > > > > > They don't ask to see your scar.I've been through security > > probably > > > 12 times > > > > since my first replacement.always been wanded and patted > > down.they > > > aren't > > > > that ridiculous to ask to see your scar.at least not with me in > > > Orlando, > > > > Washington National, BWI, Newark, Asheville, NC, Chicago, > > > Charlotte, Seatte, > > > > etc. the places I've been. Guest guest
Thank you for getting this discussion back into reality LOL If you set off an alarm, you will be wanded. It's an inconvenience but hardly something that is anything more than mildly inconvenient. I have not heard of any strip searches of joint replacement patients unless they happen to raise the suspicions of security in some other way -- and I seriously doubt that it has happened. To date, and I have been on these boards for about 2 1/2 years, I have NEVER heard of a strip search or even a demand to view the scar LOL. The best thing is to tell the agent so that they expect you to set off the alarm -- they will determine that there isn't something like a knife or gun causing the sound and that the beep is emanating from the hip or knee. I hate flying but being wanded is the least of the reasons why air travel is something to be endured rather than anticipated.
