Guest guest
Duncan, Thank you for proving my point. However your subject heading is not correct. Only one of the 2 diets was under 500 calories and it was not the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet was the one with restricted carbs but no limit on calories. The one that restricted calories to 500 was called the low-glycemic diet. At least according to reference below. Reading comprehension Duncan? Guest guest
Dee, The ketogenic diet is indeed a very low calorie " starvation diet " often used on children with uncontrollable epilepsy. It is not the same as the Atkins diet as the ketogenic diet is calorie restricted and Atkins is not. They do use the same foods but the purpose is not the same. The ketogenic diet adds MCT oil as an important part of the diet. Atkins never cared about the type of fats all that much. The ketogenic diet is carefully measured ratio of fats and proteins and carbs. Atkins isn't, just low carb. While on the Atkins diet, you may indeed through off ketones, but not every one does, and even those that don't can still lose weight. On Atkins you increase your carbs, on the ketogenic diet, it stays the same throughout the 1 to 3 years you are on it. ________________________________ From: Dolores <dgk@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Wed, September 14, 2011 5:52:23 PM Subject: Re: (was 2 diets under 500 calories) Duncan, Thank you for proving my point. Guest guest
, you are simply referencing a very SPECIFIC ketogenic diet. There are MANY versions and Atkins is one of them. It is one of the original ketogenic diets as that is how it worked because it put the body in ketosis. There is just no ONE ketogenic diet and 500 calories is not necessary in order to be in ketosis. I think I know about this as I have tried a few - always with success. And you can call it anything you want - as long as you are in ketosis it will work and can be called a ketogenic diet. And please note that I did not promote the Atkins diet. You are right that he never cared about the type of fats and I think that coconut oil is best - though also incorporating some butter and VOO is also healthy. If you want to add MCT oil go right ahead. So , how are YOU doing? Are you in ketosis? Have you tested your urine with the Ketostrips? Btw, Adkins advised that. Guest guest
I am not on Atkins, it has never worked for me and I never went into ketosis on it. The longest I stayed on it was 3 months with only 10lb weight loss. I am using the MCT oil for brain food only. Only taking 1 or 2 tablespoons a day. Atkins is better known as a low carb diet, not a ketogenic diet. That is what is causing the confusion here. There are a number of low carb diet, but strickly speaking, only one ketogenic diet. Guest guest
, Exactly where are you getting your information that there is only ONE ketogenic diet? That makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. If a diet puts you in ketosis, how is it not a ketogenic diet?
