My experience is similar to Harold's--flown more than a dozen times.

They wand and pat you down. My advice to speed things along is to

make it easy for them. Take off all other metal objects (watches,

jewelry, etc) before you walk through the metal detector. When it

goes off simply inform the attendant that you have a fake hip.

They'll send you off to the side to get wanded. Rarely takes more

than a couple of minutes.
