Guest guest
Sorry this took so long to respond, I'm too busy! I have 2 dogs, one is about 70lbs, the other 95lbs. I use to give heart wormers, and I used to use front line etc. But over three years ago one of my dogs started scratching and chewing his hair off, and was showing allergy problems.when I took him to the vet they gave them annual vaccinations. Then the dog that was having so many problems got really bad. I took him to a vet who is also a natural path an hour and a half drive.. She said they should NOT given him the vaccinations. She put him on a 10 week detox, and told me to continue giving him what I was doing. And said to give him grain free and raw diet. " Nature's Variety, Instinct. " This is what I do for my dogs, who have no fleas, yet, this year even though we have squirrel's in the yard and neighbors on both sides that don't take care of their dogs like we do our. And I've friends are complaining about using everything and their dogs still have fleas. so what I'm doing is working..Also no heartworms when tested as of last fall.. I no longer have vaccinated my dogs ( they last 7-9 years anyway, my dogs are 9 years old) My dog that has allergies has all of his hair grow back nice and thick except on his neck, I have put coconut oil on it, jojoba oil with tea tree and lavender etc. on it to help him not scratch it, which is mostly in spring- fall. And the oils are good bug repellents too. For heart wormers One week every month; Nature's sunshine, Artemisia Combination, (which is anti-Parasite) 2 at night, 1 in the morning with 1 Black Walnut cap. And 1 Nature's Sunshine HS2 in morning on the 2nd days and the 6th day. For fleas Once in a while I use natural repellants on their fur, but not often. ( have bought one from Dr. Mercola, and one called Fleaze -off by green pet. But a healthy diet and things that build their immune system will help keep fleas away. I give my dogs Brewer's Yeast garlic tablets in can food in the morning, I put K9 Level 5000 Glucosamine joint formula too. At times I also give probiotic before they eat, and at times Colostrum, and at times blue green algae and enzymes. They take a fish oil capsule daily, but I started giving them that later in the day because I started putting coconut oil on top of their can food. This week I thought I would try mixing a different oil in their can food because of my dogs neck.(Halo- VitaGlo dream coat) I have had people tell me great things about it, but never used it because I was giving my dogs fish oil. So we will see what happens with it. I leave dry food " Nature's Variety, Instinct chicken " in bowls incase they get hungry, but they don't eat it unless they do, they share a half a can of food in the mornings, then in the evening they get a raw food frozen patty I make. I use ground turkey, sometimes chicken in it. I put flax meal, perfect food green powder, olive oil, eggs, shredded carrots, broccoli, apple, redmen's sea salt, small amount of cottage cheese and yogurt, and probiotic, I put in the Vita-mix dried egg shells, powder them in there, add a little apple cider vinegar, celery and asparagus stocks, frozen blueberries, and mix and add that into my bowl with the rest, stir it all and start stirring in the meat, make 4 balls with large spoon, into freezer bags and mash down in the bag to form patties and freeze. They love them frozen, like a treat. They also get chicken jerky treats, but no dog bones that are made with flour products. I know in the natural dogs probable wouldn't eat the veggies, but mostly grass and meat, but I add all these for sources of nutrition. And the natural vet said it's good to give them veggies, such as raw carrots for snacks, but my dogs won't eat carrots alone, unless cooked, or in frozen paty. Each year the fleas have become less as the dogs are becoming healthier. My big dog had bad pain and had hard time walking because they said he had problem in his spine, I gave him (Dog gone pain) or (Dog Pain Away) they both seemed good, but one of the best things I did was take him to a Chiropractor! and the liquid joint stuff I mentioned above. Now you can't tell he had a problem. I have a friend who swears by black walnut tincture & is a breeder who has used it successfully for years. I believe she mentioned that she orders it from Marina and there is another product that Marina also recommends. For intestinal parasites the group all recommend using FOOD GRADE DE. > > I am also VERY interested in anything that will eradicate heartworms in dogs. I have a " rescue " --actually just a couple dozen dogs I've picked up on the road where they were dumped--and it's rare when I find a heartworm negative dog. In the past, a twice-monthly dose of Heartgard or plain ivermectin would get rid of heartworms in about a year, but ivermectin has become ineffective in my area. Most vets around here don't even sell it anymore. I don't have $500 per dog for traditional vet treatment and it's impossible to place a HW+ dog in a good home. > > If anyone has a solution, please LMK. > > Best, > Candace > > >
Guest guest
Lorie, The best product I've ever used for fleas and ticks was food grade diatomaceous earth. Dust them once a week and no more fleas. Cheers. Re: Heartworms > > > > > > Talk to Marina Z at www.naturalrearing.com about it. Guest guest
Last summer I put diatomaceous earth all over my yard when we didn't have rain for a few weeks. But I was thinking about getting some food grade to take, and put in their food too. It's said to do all kinds of good things... We have a doggy door, and they come in daily, so I don't like to put stuff on them. Like them to stay clean. But since we are on bugs.. What about getting squash bugs killed without killing good bugs? Guest guest
> On the dogs? I bought the smallest size I could find, 25. I meant to put it For fleas, you're gonna have to sprinkle it on the dogs. You can even sprinkle it outside your doorways to kill them so bugs don't come in from outside. The DE sticks to insect exoskeletons and dehydrates them or something. Maybe one day when you're gonna be out, or when the little one isn't around, you can strip all of the beds and sprinkle DE in all of the carpets and then vacuum it up to kill any fleas in the house. The only caveat is it's not a good idea to breathe the stuff so I'd ventilate well and maybe wear a dust mask while you sprinkle and vacuum. --Leah
Guest guest
I've heard it described that the DE gets in between the exoskeleton plates & suffocates the insect. Who would have ever thought that ground up seashells could be so effective?! Go Diatoms! Guest guest
, Actually I think the DE pierces the exoskeletons making the bugs dehydrate. I could be wrong though.
