Guest guest
The first thing everyone is going to ask is How much coconut oil have you been consuming... ________________________________ From: Platinum718 <editorbols@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Mon, September 19, 2011 2:58:44 PM Subject: Racing heart/palpitations... please help!! Hi all, I really hope someone can help me as I have officially progressed to be scared out of my mind. I started adding coconut oil to my food daily on Sept 1 of this month. I LOVED the taste and felt amazing - I already eat 90% organic and exercise 5-6 days a week, so I wanted to add this in addition to eliminating grains and sugar from my diet. On Sept 7, after my morning dose of coconut oil, I had to drive myself to the ER because I swore I was having a heart attack. It was an epic panic attack, with my heart rate elevated to over 100 bpm for 6 hours. They did every test they could and told me I was fine. I have read here and there about people who did in fact experience a rapid heart rate/dizziness after consuming the oil -- but no real details and no one says how long it should last. I quit taking the oil on Sept 8 and here it is, well over a week later and I am still getting a racing heart at night and during the day, and intense palpitations. I was diagnosed borderline hypothyroid 4 years ago, took over the counter glandulars for the past 1 1/2 years but stopped those too, thinking maybe the coconut oil gave my thyroid a massive jump in some way. Is anyone familiar with these kinds of reactions?? Please, if you know of anything in regards to this kind of reaction please let me know. It is hard for me to relax now, I am constantly paranoid about this and it's making life miserable. Any help is so much appreciated. Thank you
Guest guest
I have heard that coc. oil can help some people w/ hypothyroidism, so perhaps it led to hyperthyroid since you were also taking the glandulars at first. Another thing is that if you stopped eating gluten at the same time, which could also have been a cause of problems with the thyroid, that it kicked your thyroid into working. Hashimoto's is where people alternate between being hypo and hyperthyroid. Have you been tested for that? I think it's a basic bloodtest. Or, if you cut out things like gluten for a bit, and then consumed gluten without realizing you have a gluten sensitivity (or other food, ie. dairy, soy, corn)...then it could cause all kinds of weird symtpoms. Might be a good idea to keep a food diary paying attention to those allergens and your symptoms. Are you having any other symptoms? Sometimes abruptly stopping grains like those containing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms too....here's a blurb on that: " One theory I have read about suggests that gliadorphins, which are digestive by-products of gluten peptides, may enter the bloodstream when the GI tract is damaged. It is thought that these peptides bind with opioid receptors in the brain, and mimic the effects of opiate drugs, such as heroine and morphine. When gluten is withdrawn abruptly from the diet, certain susceptible individuals may experience a wide range of withdrawal symptoms, including, but not limited to, nausea, extreme hunger, anxiety, depression and dizziness. In 1978, researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health performed a study on rats in which they demonstrated the conversion of gluten into peptides with potential central nervous system activity. " Hope you feel better soon, i'd check in w/ your doctor again if you haven't been since the ER visit, have the thyroid tests (TSH, free T3, freeT4 and the one for Hashimotos), maybe ask for a celiac panel too, although a negative test does not rule out a gluten sensitivity. Guest guest
This may be of no help, but this happened to my husband a couple of times and freaked him out too. (He was not taking coconut oil). It seems to have been related to caffeine. I don't think it always affected him that way, and he didn't think that was it: he went to the doc as well and they did the little minute-long test with no weird readings. I know it might be obvious, but have you been taking any caffeine? Especially in the morning, on an empty stomach? Not just coffee or coke, either. He was drinking tea. Started to affect him around age 38 or so. Another thing: stress can cause irregularity in heart beats. I've had an irregularity to my resting heart rate (that I can feel) when I'm particularly stressed. --Leah > On Sept 7, after my morning dose of coconut oil, I had to drive myself to the ER because I swore I was having a heart attack. Guest guest
Heart palpitations can definitely be related to a magnesium deficiency. A blood test will not reveal much as only 1% is in the blood so look at this site, if you have any of the symptoms check out supplementing with Mg (unless you have kidney disease) http://members.upnaway.com/~poliowa/Magnesium%20-%20a%20Miracle.html Much is taken from The Magnesium Miracle by Dr. Dean which is very readable. ($11 on Amazon) On her web site she lists the best sources of Magnesium. http://drcarolyndean.com/resources.html (I've tried them all, the Anstrom one is very quick acting, the slow release JigSaw tablets are good as they last longer since Mg only stays so many hours in our bodies, and I often take a CALM drink before bed. Start slowly to let your body adjust. I find I need more than I thought. When I start to get an ache or pain I take more and it goes away. a
Guest guest
Platinum I have been getting dizzy for a few months now after starting taking VCO. I have cut way back on how much i take of the oil and i am slowly getting back to normal. About all I can say is cut back how much oil you take and you should slowly get back to normal. Guest guest
The heart palpitations reminds me of when I was undiagnosed and untreated for hypothyroidism. A malfunctioning thyroid can do all sorts of things to one's body, as can a dysregulated adrenal system. You might want to see what your Free T3 and Free T4 levels are now. Did you have thyroid antibodies checked? If you have antibodies the TSH is even less than worthless as a guide. You might want to have a look at StopTheThyroidmadness.com site. I personally can't imagine coconut oil causing that reaction. I ended up self-treating (and getting well), so it doesn't surprise me that the ER didn't find anything. > > Hi all, I really hope someone can help me as I have officially progressed to be scared out of my mind. > > I started adding coconut oil to my food daily on Sept 1 of this month. Guest guest
Platinum718, I have experienced heart palpitations from MCT oil but not coconut oil. I would scale back on the coconut oil and reintroduce at a lower dose. I do no think you should worry too much - probably just too much coconut oil , too soon. thanks elaine > > Hi all, I really hope someone can help me as I have officially progressed to be scared out of my mind. > > I started adding coconut oil to my food daily on Sept 1 of this month. Guest guest
Hi a: These angstrom (I guess... can it actually happen?) sized magnesium molecules sound interesting, but they also raise questions: There is really no description of them at their website, just a long dissertation on how magnesium works, etc. This I knew. What I don't know is what the product amounts to and any possible downside. If it is basically nano particles as the good Dr. suggests, why not come clean with it? If it is actually nanotechnology as the product name suggests, I would want to know about it before ingesting it. Finally, not to be picky, but where did you get the statement, " It only stays in our body so many hours? " Never heard any such suggestion that I recall and have read two books on it. Cheers, Jim Heart palpitations can definitely be related to a magnesium deficiency.
