Guest guest
the only thing about the yogurt acidophilus is that you also end up getting some sugar. i agree that the capsules are way more beneficial. > > > > > > Dear > > > > > > Indeed your surgery story sounds very > > familiar. > > > > > > For the ears, I was able to cure my own > > problem with an otologist who injects kenacort into > > my eardrum through the drains I have in place. > > > > > > She rarely does that although she has a long > > experience with ear issues here in Switzerland at > > the otology department of the > > > > > > university hospital of Geneva. > > > > > > Other ENT often raise eyebrows as they are not > > familiar with this practice. > > > > > > It stoppes my becoming deaf very rapidly after > > more than 2 years of nearly hearing nothing and > > before I was just about to undertake a surgery to > > have an ear implant. > > > > > > Good luck > > > > > > Anne > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everybody, > > > > I have been following the messages of this > > group already for some time > > now but have hesitated to write my own note before. > > The reason to this > > is that even though I was extremely happy to find > > people/a group that > > actually knew and had experienced Samters themselves > > (because then I > > didn't feel so alone with it anymore), I also was > > very sad and angry, > > too, to not have been able to find you earlier than > > now. Guest guest
Yes, refrgieration is key, and acidophilus is not the only important probiotic. There are even different probiotics for different ailments, you have to research into it depending upon what you are looking for. I take a powder called UltraFlora plus DF (dairy free). Guest guest
My doctor in the states says that it will help to balance your system. I also have acne but don't like taking antiobiotics and my skin has cleared up very nicely. I don't know if you enjoy reading but if you do checkout a book at the library on probiotics, you will be amazed at all of the health benefits of taking probiotics. I don't know what Dr. A says about probiotics so you may want to ask him, but I know what I have read, researched and experienced first hand and as soon as Dr.A gives the ok I will begin taking probiotics again. My husband has had a lot of digestive problems and he takes probiotics as well and his problems are gone. Probiotics have also helped with my exczema and my sugar cravings. Let me know how they work for you. Someone was also talking about acid reflux problems not too long ago, my doctor in the states suggests apple cider vinegar. I know it smells and tastes horrible but it works. Vinegar white and apple cider have so many healing qualities. From: Cyrena Weeks <cyrenaweeks@...>Subject: Probiotics Date: Sunday, August 30, 2009, 1:27 PM ne,I have a question about probiotics. I just ordered some and thought that they might help my gastrointestinal issues. After reading your post, I have a question...I take 250 mg of antibiotics daily for my acne, I realize that throws off my bacteria but is extremely beneficial to my face. So if I take the probiotics will that help balance my system?? Cyrena

Guest guest
Yes, definitely. Antibiotics wipe out all the good bacteria too and the probiotics will put whatever you need back into your system. > > > From: Cyrena Weeks <cyrenaweeks> > Subject: Probiotics > @groups. com > Date: Sunday, August 30, 2009, 1:27 PM > > > > > > ne, > I have a question about probiotics. I just ordered some and thought that they might help my gastrointestinal issues. After reading your post, I have a question... > I take 250 mg of antibiotics daily for my acne, I realize that throws off my bacteria but is extremely beneficial to my face. So if I take the probiotics will that help balance my system?? > > Cyrena >
Guest guest
Thanks Wayne for the info. Added sugar is bad for general immunity etc, but I did not know it inactivated probiotics. If we are dutiful enough, the sugar industry is going to lose money over us. > > Apparently plain yogurt is a better source of probiotic than flavored yogurt( ie. Guest guest
From my understanding one would need to eat a lot of yogurt to get enough of the probiotics we need. There are live probiotics as supplements in the refrigerated section in most health food stores. From: Wayne <louis7680@...>samters Sent: Tue, October 5, 2010 3:19:07 PMSubject: Probiotics Apparently plain yogurt is a better source of probiotic than flavored yogurt( ie. SUGARS OR ACID INACTIVATE PROBIOTIC BACTERIA). A friend suggested adding canned cranberry(ocean Spray) or jam to improve the flavor just before eating. Fibre in the diet (prebiotic)is also of benefit(complex carbohydrates promote intestinal health). Probiotics have been shown to benefit immune function, mood states and outlook on life ..My interest in all of this is that probiotics my decrease the incidence of respiratory infections and also help prevent secondary infections. Also with all the antibiotic and hospital exposure I wonder how many of us are MRSA positive( not to mention resistant to macrolides or Moxi(aveolox)? Sorry if I have the odd brain fart ,but I continually am thinking about Samter's and just hope to see a major breakthrough (ie cure)instead of addressing side effects and interactions between medications that we take.I feel priveledged to be a member of this group. Guest guest
There is a lot to consider, dosage just to start with. For example heat ie. a cup of coffee while taking the probiotic can inactivate it. Also probiotics might be multidrug resistant .This might enhance their survival but the multidrug resistance would be easily passed to other ie pathogenic bacteria. > > > > From my understanding one would need to eat a lot of yogurt to get enough of the > > probiotics we need. Guest guest
I too wonder about the best dosage. We currently are taking an age appropriate type, the brand is Ultimate Flora. For ages 18-49 it is 15 billion, but I believe it goes as high, if not higher than, 50 billion. In addition to health stores, I believe they can be found on the internet. Guest guest
Wayne, I hardly get to read the group anymore or check it but this topic is very interesting. When I first started on the Xolair I participated in the drug test and during one of my visits, they gave me the immunization for MRSA and I am so glad they did. It was a trial and I participated because I have a daycare and a few children had exposed me to staph infections. So far, I have avoided the MRSA outbreaks in the Atlanta area. Last spring I did have an over growth of staph in my nose but I was put on the nasal nebulizer with the three meds (antibiotic, steroid and anothe drug I have forgotten. I am going to add the probiotics and see how they do. At the present moment, I am having a lot of wheezing. I am tired all teh time and I think it could be pertaininig to my obesity. Either way, I feel lousy now.Gwendolyn Rafter From: Wayne <louis7680@...>Subject: Probioticssamters Date: Tuesday, October 5, 2010, 6:19 PM Apparently plain yogurt is a better source of probiotic than flavored yogurt( ie. Guest guest
Hi Gwendolyn. So sorry to hear you are not well. Thanks for the information regarding a vaccine to MRSA, I didn't know this was even available.MRSA should appear in most of us eventually considering our antibiotic and hospital exposure.Resistance to whatever antibiotic works for us now, with repeated exposure I believe is a given. I had vaccines to meningitis and pneumonia as I expected complications of frontal sinusitis before I recieved treatment. On Asfy's recommendation I recieved a second opinion from someone who did research and showed interest in our condition, and upon seeing this specialist proper treatment followed ie before complications. It sounds like your asthma is out of control.I hope you seek treatment for this(oxygen saturation may be low ,hence being tired)). If you don't think you are recieving proper treatment you need a second opinion.Diet ,lifestyle, exercise and mental outlook are things we can change with a likely benefit. Now that I am retired I have some time to address these issues.I believe you've read my posts and understand my interest in probiotics.I wish you the best ,Sincerely Wayne Louis- In samters , Gwendolyn Rafter <gwen5052@...> wrote: > > Wayne, I hardly get to read the group anymore or check it but this topic is very interesting. Guest guest
Lyn, a probiotic is a proposal for a healthier bowel ecology. The proposal to make more also requires the feed for the probiotics to thrive on. Inulin is a very selective feed for probiotics. Here's the science: http://tinyurl.com/inulins Taking probiotics without their feed doesn't work, which is the reason why probiotics are known to stop working as soon as you stop eating them. all good, Duncan > > I wonder if anyone her has tried Dr. Ohhirra's Probiotics. Guest guest
Yes, I purchased them from Dr. Ben Kim's site. I just ran out but while I was taking them, an herbalist I know highly recommended a product called Pharmax HLC Synbiotic Intensive so I bought them this time. I have to say that I did feel better while taking the Ohhirra's Probiotics...less or no indigestion, less inflammation in my back, which was a painful thing I dealt with each day. So I would say they were helpful, although a little pricey. But Pharmax isn't too cheap either. But I will compare these and let you know. Guest guest
I have used them, only one at night, and regular probiotic in the mornings, but ran out, and have not used them in a few months, but thought they were good and seemed to have less bloating, and help with regularity. (which I seem to have when I eat much coconut oil. Along with weight gain. Also there's been times I wake up in the night feeling nauseated, which is a new thing for me.) I read on earth clinic that many people had problems with the coconut oil too. Do you all know if it's something that goes away after a while? The blood type diet says it's not good for blood type A. But I don't know that they tested raw extra virgin coconut oil back when they did the test?) When I stopped eating coconut oil and the almond butter I lost the 5 lbs that I gained and started using it again, but much less of it and I seemed okay for a while, but I over done it again and gained the 5 lbs back. Could be that I can't have it with almond butter, daily I eat almonds or walnuts, and that with my krill oil in the mornings, and fish oil in the evenings, and if I have salad my dressing is made with lemon and flax oil or olive oil. Maybe I'm getting way too much fat. That's what comes to mind when wake up in the night feeling almost sick to my stomach. I don't eat sugar, or flour products except rawer occasion, if I eat bread it's once a week, Ezekiel bread. I eat meat sometimes, but not much, I like fish better. And love my fruit and vegies. I do eat organic yogurt and cheese. Mostly sheep cheese. and protein powder after my workout; Whey or pea. If anyone knows what protein powder company is best to buy I'd like to know that too. Sorry for the side trip here, but if anyone has anything to say about this I'm listening. Some people don't think 5lbs is a big deal, but for me it is a matter of fitting my pants. And I'm not buying bigger clothes. I know I have to discipline myself better with the coconut oil mixed with almond butter, and make time to eat right when I'm busy so I don't overdo it on all the fat with its high calories. I'm preaching to myself. Thanks for any wisdom sent my way. Anyway I thought I'd try these probiotics again. Guest guest
________________________________ >> Sorry for the side trip here, but if anyone has anything to say about this I'm listening. Some people don't think 5lbs is a big deal, but for me it is a matter of fitting my pants. And I'm not buying bigger clothes. Thanks for any wisdom sent my way. Anyway I thought I'd try these probiotics again. I just bought more and started them this time I'm taking one at night and in the morning, this time. I have been wondering if I should just approach my health from the probiotic standpoint. I am starting to make kefir and kombucha and was wondering if I could also help by adding a good probiotic when I learned about these. I just wonder if I would get them, if it would help. Or if it is possible to over-do it. I do not have named health issues as people are familiar with, but I am trying to kick parasites and have only gotten so far in my three-year journey at this. I hope some others also reply with experience with these. I have just heard so much and used so many junk products in my journey that I do not want to make another costly mistake. As for your own health situation, I totally understand the 5 lb fear you have. My thots are, the next thing you could look into is alkalized water. I am not heavy by any stretch of anyone's imagination, but my journey started with this and a clean diet; and many things cleared up for me, including losing 5 lbs that I didn't know I had to lose. It was really nice. That was over two years ago and it is still gone. There are the alkalizer machines and I've also learned that there are additives that are made to add to water to make it alkaline, too. You want a machine that alkalizes to at least 7.0 pH. I say this because personally don't see how any lower alkalinity could have the most positive health effect and produce the believer out of you. I will always sing the praises of alkalized water. knowthecause.com supports and interview a company that sells alkalizing drops for water, but I have not tried these since I bought a machine. I'm no expert on fats, but I don't think the fats you eat are hurting you. They are healthy fats. I eat quite alot of fat myself. Healthy fats. Something else is going awry and alkalized water will help by detoxifying your system everywhere that water goes when you drink it.
