Guest guest
My first experience with coconut oil was in 1939. My Father took me with him, to help his baseball, football, hockey associate chum, build shelves and paint a new grocery store, and French Pastry Shop. I was 8 years old and the store was located next to the fire station. The two large front display windows were specially designed to display the French Pastery. Enclosed with cheese cloth protection. Lou had imported a small skinny French pastry cook, who insisted he would only bake his pastry using coconut oil. The business was very successful. About three years later coconut oil became scarce, hard to buy, because of the war. Synthetic manufactured oils replaced the coconut oil. Sales of French pastry dropped off. I was off and away from the store for a few years. After the war it took several years to get permission to import coconut oil from the Pacific area. The synthetic oils caused Lou's customers to put on a lot of weight . He built a new bigger store as soon as he was able to get coconut oil again. The store was a great success . Everybody was enjoying their slim & trim French pastry . Bernard Cain
