They still feel different than they did - different, but not bad. All I have to do is remember what they felt like before, and I start to smile - they don't hurt any more! I can't tell you about having the second one done right now, because I had both done at the same time. I'd think you would be fine if you are up to it. Guest guest
Joanie, It will get better. I always described my knee as feeling like it was stuffed with sawdust. But it got better. I'm almost two years out (and this feeling has been there for almost a year), I have no pain, no weird feelings, almost a perfect knee. I can't tell you how great it is to have a joint that isn't a problem. Now, I only needed one knee done so I can't speak to having both done but I don't imagine you will regret getting the second over with now. Then you will be totally recovered in six months or so. Six weeks is still recovery time. I mean you will notice a difference in only two weeks from now with that knee. But the swelling will continue for a few months. Wear knee-high ted hose in the evenings when it bothers you, and also ice each evening if you want to. I did. Feels like walking on a stump I am almost 6 weeks out from a TKR and sometimes it feels like I am walking on stilts or it feels like I am walking on a stump. Anyone else have this sensation? Of course, I still feel the stiffness but this stump feeling is bothersome. Also, sometimes I think I can feel the top and bottom of the new knee. Anyone else? The only way it goes away is when I put on a pair of T.E.D. hose. Now, my doctor says I am ready for my other knee to be done in 2 weeks but I just don't know if this feeling will go away. I don't like it and I don't want to feel this is both knees for the rest of my life. The doctor said I will have swelling for 6 months and that is what it is. I would love to hear from others on this matter. Also is it smart to have the other knee done so soon after the first? If I have it done now, I won't have to pay for it as I reached my out of pocket maximum on my insurance. You are totaly normal, I had mine done 2year ago on thursday and sometimes I still have that unnatural feeling but it is better then the pain. I find that when it is cold and damp I need to take something for inflamation. Just keep working hard and you will find it more normal feeling as it heals and your muscles get stronger. I still ride my recumbant bike when I feel stiff and it helps alot. Good luck Deb in Michigan >
Guest guest
I also ride my bike in the house and that really helps. The outside of my knee also feels numb. I also wear the TED hose at night. I think I am addicted to them. I can't sleep without them. I think I have made up my mind to have the other one done in a couple of weeks. I know I will have to get it done sooner or later, it might as well be sooner and get it over with. Guest guest
Joanie, I'm nearly 3 months out and I gotta tell you...It doesn't feel real sometimes. Mine also has this annoying pop when I walk. The dr tells me it's normal and that everything is fine, but it feels really weird sometimes..I will be getting my other knee done on March 17. I, too, had to wait for time off at work or I would've done it the next week. Because despite the weird feelings in it, it doesn't hurt anymore. I can walk without limping, without it freezing up on me. I understand how you feel like you are on a stump, it's an almost indescribable sensation, but I guess we have to take heart from those who are further down the road, and know that it's going to get better! And if the TEDs help, wear them! Oh, and I can attest to the fact that it is possible to kneel on TKRs, as I fell out of bed last night and had to get up on my knee to be able to get up. I was terrified, but it's fine and dandy, only a little more sore today. Happy thanksgiving everyone! > > I am almost 6 weeks out from a TKR and sometimes it feels like I am > walking on stilts or it feels like I am walking on a stump. Anyone else > have this sensation? I don't think it's too soon at all. Hi , That is one of my fears, falling down. I hope you are OK! I made my appointment for my other knee for Dec. 10. I hope I am doing the right thing and doing it just 8 weeks after the first one. I am doing OK, not much pain anymore, just a lot of stiffness and that weird feeling. I do hope it goes away. My other knee is not too bad. Mainly, it just hurts when I go up and down the stairs. I thought to have it done now since it won't cost me anything and I know I will need it done sooner or later. My surgeon says that this knee is just as bad as the one I just got operated on. Do you think I should wait or do it now? If I wait, I will have to pay $4000 that I don't have. This one will be free as I have met my out of pocket for my insurance. Joanie **************Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. Guest guest
> > Hi , > > That is one of my fears, falling down. I hope you are OK! My wife had mentioned before that the chair I was using had been creaking, but I blew it off. Chairs always creak. One night while home alone one nightshortly after the BTKN, I was sitting at the kitchen table, reading. Normally, we don't keep so much weight on chair legs when we slide them under and out from under tables, but right when I was recovering, I guess I was keeping all my weight on the chair as it slid. That night, I found out about the creaky glue joint. As I slid out from under the table and started to lift myself with my arms, a loose dowel pulled out, and two legs broke off. Falls happen. The only thing you can do is lay there a few minutes, collect your thoughts, and figure out how to get up again. It can be done. No sense having any panic.
