Guest guest
Magnesium deficiency is the first thing that comes to mind w/ your symptoms. Be careful w/ B6 supplementation, it can help w/ numbness/tingling, but if you get too much it can also cause it (I cna only tolerate 5omg/day max or I get what they call " gloves " and " socks " where hands and feet are numb) Here's a list of some low mag symptoms from a website just found googling, i'm sure you can find more informative sites and others here probably have more ideas. Liz Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency? What are some of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency? They are outlined beautifully in a recent article by Dr. Sidney Baker*. Magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every organ system of the body. With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can't take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot. Symptoms involving impaired contraction of smooth muscles include constipation; urinary spasms; menstrual cramps; difficulty swallowing or a lump in the throat-especially provoked by eating sugar; photophobia, especially difficulty adjusting to oncoming bright headlights in the absence of eye disease; and loud noise sensitivity from stapedius muscle tension in the ear. Other symptoms and signs of magnesium deficiency and discuss laboratory testing for this common condition. Continuing with the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, the central nervous system is markedly affected. Symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity and restlessness with constant movement, panic attacks, agoraphobia, and premenstrual irritability. Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations. Symptoms or signs of the cardiovascular system include palpitations, heart arrhythmias, angina due to spasms of the coronary arteries, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. Be aware that not all of the symptoms need to be present to presume magnesium deficiency; but, many of them often occur together. For example, people with mitral valve prolapse frequently have palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and premenstrual symptoms. People with magnesium deficiency often seem to be " uptight. " Other general symptoms include a salt craving, both carbohydrate craving and carbohydrate intolerance, especially of chocolate, and breast tenderness. from: http://www.mbschachter.com/importance_of_magnesium_to_human.htm > > I would like to solicit advice from the knowlegable people in this group. Guest guest
forgot to say about the B6, if you get the " P5P " (pyridoxal 5 phosphate) kind, it shouldnt' cause those problems I mentioned. the P5P is already in the form the body needs, whereas pyroxidine has to be converted. Guest guest
, I'd like to throw out a couple of things. First get a CBC done to check your platelet numbers and others to make sure they aren't elevated. The other suggestion is to start taking magnesium supplements. Just not mg Oxide which isn't effective. A blood test for mg will not reveal anything. Read The Magnesium Miracle by Dr. Dean. On Amaznon for $11 read the reviews, very revealing. http://www.amazon.com/Magnesium-Miracle-Carolyn-Dean/dp/034549458X/ref=sr_1_1?ie\ =UTF8 & qid=1317499770 & sr=8-1 Here are other symptoms: http://members.upnaway.com/~poliowa/Magnesium%20-%20a%20Miracle.html a > > I would like to solicit advice from the knowlegable people in this group. Guest guest
Thank you all for the suggestions. I am going to get some magnesium tomorrow, and will order the book as well. How long until the magnesium could show improvement? I think suggested staying elsewhere for a week to see if that helped, and I have thought of that many times myself. We have three little boys (5, 2 & 6 months) so it isn't easy to stay elsewhere, but we may have a trip later in the month for a few days and will be visiting family at Christmas for a week, so at least there is that. These feelings are pretty weird, so I am hoping something helps! > > > > I would like to solicit advice from the knowlegable people in this group. Guest guest
What said reminded me of something I heard once where someone moved into a house that had had water damage, and there was a mold issue. She was having really weird symptoms the whole time she lived there and it turns out it was causing neural/brain damage. When she moved out it got better (her kids had some problems too, I think) but she had some permanent damage. Might be worth getting someone to test your house.... --Leah > > I would like to solicit advice from the knowlegable people in this group. If it really started right after loving into a new house, I'd look first at envorinmental toxins - maybe mold, an allergy to some carpeting, etc... Is this a brand new house? If not, did you do any renovations before you moved in? Have it inspected by a mold remediation company (some will do free inspections)... Guest guest
*Hi : I hate to be telling you this, but the zeolite supplier (who was involved the testing) that I once used went out of business. He recommended an animal supplier in New Jersey that I never pursued, but an online friend in another group did and he was happy with it. I don't have his number any more, but there have to be plenty others out there and their stuff is cheap. * * It is sorta like MSM for horses... works great & is just the right price! * * Cheers, * * Jim * >Interesting... zeolite is something else I've been curious about, but always considered it overhyped (maybe because most of the ones I've looked at were very expensive)... Which one do you recommend Jim?<
Guest guest
You know, this mold idea makes sense. When we were looking at houses, one place had a mold problem; I knew as soon as I stepped inside, as my face started itching and burning, and then my hands. Then inside the house, I could smell the muskiy smell. I cannot stand any kind of mold; that is the reaction I get every time. Definitely is worth looking into!! Guest guest
Thank you! I have a home mold kit from Home Depot and I am going to set it out tonight. I think following up with a mold company is a good idea too. The house was built in the '90's and some built-ins were put in in the last couple years, as well as 1 year old carpet in the hallways, but that's it as far as I know. The house doesn't seem musty and the a/c unit is only a year or two old.. but you never know. It is definitely worth investigating. The husband and kids haven't shown any unusual responses, thank goodness. My first thought was the carpeting. We have had it steam cleaned (without chemicals) then a three step sealing process from an environmental company, and I now wear shoes in the house all the time. Unfortunately, even though we took these steps the tingling progressed to muscle twitches and the twitches seem to be moving into new areas. I saw the neurologist today and he agreed to check my magnesium, calcium and phosphorus levels. Hopefully something will turn up there but I also ordered a magnesium supplement and plan to start that when it arrives. I am so appreciative of these ideas, things I wouldn't have thought of myself. Guest guest
You might notice improvement quickly w/ magnesium supplementation, but it can also take awhile and needs to be taken like, forever and every day : ) kinda like vitamin D3 and C. btw, i'd have your D3 level checked too if you haven't in awhile. Blood mag level won't mean much. Liz > > > > > > I would like to solicit advice from the knowlegable people in this group. Guest guest
I know someone who also moved into a house that she ultimately had to move out of with her family because it poisoned them and they developed very serious health issues. They are a young family. Her situation was she moved into a log cabin and the logs were soaked in creosote which is toxic to life. So mold and toxicity play a big role in our health. Guest guest
I started taking chelated magnesium along with a mineral supplement that also had magnesium in it. I started slowly and upped the dose over a week, and really noticed a decrease in the muscle twitching. Then, the weirdest thing happened, I developed a horrible salty taste in my mouth that has not gone away. I can't say if it is from the minerals or the magnesium, or both. The salty, burning taste was so horrible the first few days I could barely sleep at night. Has anyone heard of this with magnesium or chelated minerals? I just took the standard dosing, adding up to maybe 700-900mg of mag. in one day, and I only did this for one day before the taste started.  I tried to keep taking the supplements but the taste persisted, so I have stopped both for now. It seems to be getting a tiny bit better in the past two days, but the twitching is getting worse. I bought magnesium oil and started that yesterday- do I also need to find another oral magnesium or is the transdermal enough? Any ideas how to get rid of this salty taste?  Thanks all, From: <silverlady3@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2011 12:24 PM Subject: Re: help with tingling feelings and muscle twitches  I may have written this before but tingling and muscle twitches are signs of a magnesium deficiency which is easy enough to solve.
