Guest guest
Hi group, I have been reading for a couple of months now, and have been fortunate in receiving tons of excellent information not only through your posts but from elizlwil personally. I live in Costa Rica with my husband and have suffered long enough with congenital hip dysplasia and have my first THR to my right hip coming up Dec. 9. I have researched and hopefully my choice in hospital and surgeon will prove to be topnotch. My surgeon is a Columbian fellow, has performed over 800 hip surgeries, has perfect English. The hospital has the Joint Commission International seal of approval. It is also one of the medical tourism choices for N. Americans who need surgeries at a fraction of the U.S. cost. I will be getting a Biomet large head metal on metal prosthesis. Posterior incision, avoiding muscle, Dr. moves muscle out of the way. I have requested to be in hospital for a minimum stay, hopefully only 2 days, to avoid staph infections that can happen readily in hospital settings. From there I will go to a hotel/villa/retreat for recovery and rehab. It really is a " vacation " place, the hospital contracts with them and with home health medical personnel to attend to me at this hotel! So when people complain that for what they paid a hospital, they could have stayed at a 5 star resort...well! It will be interesting to experience this process in a foreign country. Thanks for all your information. Despite never going through this before, I feel well prepared..at least intellectually.
