Guest guest
Weird Way to Boost Your Self-Esteem Feel bad about your job or relationships or even your self-image? Fix it--at least temporarily--by turning on the television. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of British Columbia found that watching television helps distract people from their personal failings, reports HealthScoutNews. After a group of undergraduate students were given either positive or negative results on an intelligence test, the researchers examined their television viewing habits. Those who received the low scores watched television longer and waited longer before the first instance of averting their eyes from the television than students who had high scores, reports HealthScoutNews. Specifically, they watched TV for an average of 4.03 minutes out of a possible 6 minutes without averting their gaze from the screen for the first 72 seconds. By contrast, those who scored well on the IQ test watched TV for just 2.46 minutes out of a possible 6 minutes and first looked away after just 11 seconds. So what does all this mean? After watching television for just a few minutes, the students "perceived less challenge to their chosen self-image," reports HealthScoutNews. Interestingly, this applied no matter what the students watched. These are links to other stories...not sure if they work on this e-mail. Happiness can be portrayed in a mathematical equation.
